Pain in my shoulder......

Postby stefandang » Sun Aug 20, 2006 6:59 pm

Hi there I have a weird pain in the area of my left shoulder blade... there used to be a subtle pain there for a few weeks, possibly due to lifting dumbells. But the pain was so mild I thought nothing of it. Last Thursday I woke up, and the pain was much worse, and it had radiated to my neck, so I couldn't move my neck much. I hadn't been to the gym or done weights for 6 days so it wasn't worse due to that. I went to the doctor who said I must have slept funny..but 3 days later I still have the pain. My neck doesn't hurt as much anymore but the pain is definitely still around the shoulder blade area. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? The doctor wasn't much use so I've resorted to looking on the internet. Thanks

I had some pretty nasty shoulder pain which started a few months ago. To make a long story short, I saw my general physician who then recommended me to an orthopedic specialist. The orthopedic specialist recommended me to a physical therapist, and I've been going to that for a month or so now.

I tried doing the whole "be a man, just let it sit for a while and it'll get better" with bad results (it didn't get any better, and I stupidly went back to the gym and injured it further).

From what the physical therapist told me, letting my injury sit for as long as I did made it a little bit tougher to fix. My body compensated for the injured muscle, and now my shoulders are out of whack. One of them has stronger muscles in one area than the other ... one of them has a better range of motion than the other ... etc.

Luckily, my health insurance is covering the expenses for my physical therapy, so I only need to pay $10 per visit. I hope you're in a similar situation.

So basically, I'd suggest you see your doctor again and emphasize that it's not a "sleeping funny" type of thing and that you would like to have a specialist look at it.

Well stefandang, it seems that you strained your left shoulder by taking excessive weight. Why did you take it buddy without expert recommendation? You need to start with very light weights initially and then increases it slowly day by day. It's not bravery to do something out of limitations. However, try to consult a good orthopedics as soon as possible. Pray for your quick recovery

wow i posted that a year ago. i solved the mystery - it was my very heavy cat digging her paws into a vulnerable area in between my shoulder blades. thanks for the answers anyway. (and yes the pain has gone now lol)
