hehe - gotta start somewhere!!
My goal is to bench my (approximate) weight of 150lbs (~68kg) by the end of the year (Dec 31, 2005).
Anyone else interested?
My PB is about 140lbs, tho i haven't been doing any bench/chest workouts for the last 3+mos, so i'd guess my current max is prolly 130lbs or a bit more.
Who else is in? =)

This is a challenge that I can join and have a chance to be successful at! Good initiative!
I'm currently weighing in at 75-76kg and I would like to be able to press that soon, but right now I'm managing 4 reps with 50kg or ~110lbs. I could probably squeeze out a rep with 120lbs or something. I haven't maxed out since I don't have any spotters.
So I'm in but I will aim for 70kg since I don't have access to any lbs-plates.

i think you guys should just aim a bit higher and go for the 200lbs race

the gains would come quick if you put a bit of time and effort to it. If your counter argument is that it will take you a year, then look at the 300lbs race first posts date and see how much many of us have left to catch up

That thread will go on for at least a year!!

But this is just a short term goal, and once there I will definitely go for the 200lbs or sligthly higher, say 100kg. So in the beginning of the next year I will hopefully enter the race to 200lbs bench press. But I think this is a good place start.

But what if you're out walking in the forest and suddenly a 200lbs log falls on your chest and you get stuck under it? You have to admit that it would be usefull then

?

You can't argue with logic like that!

I'm not Dave, but I'd guess the reason for not wanting to bench that much could be that it would involve either a) more bench traning that's necessary for cycling (ie waste of time), or b) packing heavy muscles on a place you don't really need them. at least that's my excuse

as a lean cyclist you just slide out beneath the log, instead of getting stuck with your huge chest wedged between the log and the ground

yeah, I was of course assuming the bike was still attached to his or her feet.

It's the shaved body and spandex, allows them to slide out of most anything.

haha - you guys are having too much fun. =)
Yes, the spandex helps me slide!!
Fredrik is correct, i don't need the upper-body mass on climbs, or even on the track...having power there does next to nothing in cycling....and every extra pound is one more you've got to haul around.
Okay, so there's Albin and me, anyone else???
Surely there have to be a few other people hovering below the 150lb mark!

as a female I could envisage a race to 150lbs in the LONG TERM

that would be more than my bodyweight though and I am only just getting comfortable with 105lbs and did my first attempt at 135lbs (45lbs plates a side on olympic bar) with a spot (not sure how heavy) both positive and negative and partial reps this week.
