Race to 200 lbs Bench Press

Postby jemmyducks » Wed Nov 09, 2005 6:31 pm

Okay, so we're starting another race to a 200-pound bench.

List your starting bench and then update as you make progress. I think it would be interesting to also list starting body weight.

Jemmy

I am in as well. My bodyweight is 210 lb / 95 kg, and my bench was 195 lb / 88.7 kg, but I had slacked on benching for a while and I would guess it is at about 175 lb / 79.5 kg now. I have been doing incline bench the last few weeks, which has been going okay, though my shoulder and tricep strength has gone up a lot from all the overhead pressing I have been doing. So hopefully I have a chance to improve my bench soon. I will be benching this Friday.

Bigb, the 175 is my max. I have been training with 135 and 145 at 8-10 reps for a while and am now moving to a lower-rep training program.

Cool  , I found that low reps allowed me to go heavier on my bench!!! I don't like repping out because if I pick out a wieght I can do 8-10 reps with it doesn't start getting hard until the 6-7th rep so I like to get to the nitty gritty and go heavy! right now I'm I'm doing 1 rep I usually get 3 sets done before I can't lift any more! next time you bench do 180lbs see what happens, I bet you do it!!!

Hm, doesn't seem like we have many folks in on this one. Hopefully we'll get some more.

New Max: 180lbs.

I actually did 2 reps with that weight and almost completed 185. Give me a couple days and I'll get it.

I did 2 reps on bench with 185 today!

Taking an upper-body break for a few days did wonders. I got that new max, then continued extremely energetically for a total of 90 minutes. You guys would have been proud. :)

This is super fun. :)

I have been advancing with dumbbell chest presses each week, but I haven't benched with a barbell in weeks. My brother hasn't been around, so I have no spotter to do any heavy work. However, as soon as I get a chance, hopefully this week or next, I will give it a go and see what my max is. I hope it has improved, as I know my shoulders and triceps are waay stronger than they used to be, and my chest has been feeling stronger as well.
