D'oh - it's under General Discussion rather than Cycling, where i looked..
Good stuff about contacting Conti. Kenda emailed me back (i resent my note to all the companies yesterday) and so far they say they won't disclose any info!! WTF??

What about vittoria? Are they under one of these other companies? If not I volunteer to contact them.

Dave,
I am afraid that we can not comment on the chemical make up of our tires. While I understand that your research is solely based on an ethical context, we are unfortunately unwilling to share that type of information at this time.
I wish you the best luck in your further research.
Thanks
Ben

Actually, please reconsider, here's how Ben responded after some prodding -- he sent a note to Taiwan and:

Hi Ben,
I got an answer from our R&D today.
We did not use any animal products. The Stearic Acid we used is refined from tree oil.
You can tell him we did not use any animal products in our tire.

Kick ass!!!
Michelin and Kenda are both vegan - yip!
Any updates from anyone else?

Great to see further progress on this
Vegan society are placing the info in there Animal Free Shopper. (re Michelins) Will update them regarding the bicycle tyres when you've got all the feedback. Trying to get them to place something in their Vegan society quarterly magazine-which goes to all their 6,000 members. They're being a bit negative- saying they can't find room. But will keep 'chipping away'. Gonna get a colleague who has a need for advertising in their mag to try and get it included as part of his deal.
