Fiona Oakes running for captive animals, London marathon 09

Postby JP » Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:49 pm

Fiona Oakes (who is also VF member) is running the next London Marathon in April 09 for The Captive Animals' Protection Society (CAPS) - UK based campaign group opposing the use of animals in entertainment. Its a great group punching above its bodyweight for the animals.

Fiona Oakes is an elite level marathon runner, her PB time on the vegan running table is marked as 2:49:00 and she continuously places high in highly regarded comps.

You can sponsor Fiona in her run to help CAPS in their work.

Apparently, Gordon Ramsey is running again this year - his best time was, according to Wikipedia, 3:46:10 in 2006 and he's apparently aiming to break the 3:30:00 barrier in 2009.

I think it would be interesting to make sure Gordon Ramsey knows there will be a vegan woman running at lot faster than him?

I was watching the 'finish line' camera and saw a man in a VRUK vest who was neither Max Newton, nor James. He finished just before Max, but is not on the results page if you search for finishers from Vegan Runners. Anyone know who this mysterious speedy dude is?

Cheers guys. I struggled again but was happy enough to get a pb. 26.2miles is such a long way to race
:?

I met the guy who ran 2.52 at the finish. I forget him surname. I know he runs for Warwick Uni also. Max Newton ran 2.55 so both of those guys did pb's. 3 guys and 1 lady under 3hours is good for such a small club. Vanessa Hudson had a good run, about 3.40 odd i think. Will post more later...
