Rumor has it that the existence of a condition called "pernicious ketosis" has been unofficially denied by someone who I could not confirm is a representative of the Western Meat Price Institute. This condition can occur when, through complete avoidance of all carbohydrate-containing, i.e. non-meat foods in the diet, the brain becomes too deprived of glucose to understand why this might be a problem. Apparently they implied this condition is not as serious a medical problem as other nutritional deficiencies, since it tends to be shorter lived.
