New member with two broken legs.

Postby Mary. » Wed Apr 18, 2012 10:47 am

First of all, I'd better make it clear that this is Graham, Big Good Wolf, writing on behalf of Mary while she's in hospital.

Mary's not a computer person. I've been trying to get her to start a training log for ages and she just says "I don't need a log, I write it on the calendar".
Anyway, she's going to be in a wheelchair for a while when she gets home and unable to run or cycle for a few months, so I've registered her here so she can at least talk to other vegans and get some support while she's housebound.

In case your wondering, it wasn't bike related. I was doing some repairs on her car and had it chocked with a block of concrete, she went to move the car and kicked the chock away, not realising I had left it with the handbrake off. She tried to stop the car rolling and got trapped between the back of the car and the front of my Land Rover breaking both legs just above the knee.

When is the release from hospital expected?

It happened on Sunday morning, a week and a half ago.
She's whizzing about in a wheelchair already in the big hospital in Birmingham, about 30 miles away.
She should be moved to Kidderminster hospital next week, which is only about 5 miles away. I work in Kidderminster.
I don't know how long it takes to get sent home from there, not too long I hope.
She's got a home visit soon, probably on Friday, where they bring her home briefly to assess how she can get around her house. I'm trying to make some temporary wheelchair ramps by then.

What a terrible thing to happen. I wish her the best during her recovery.

Wow. That's terrible.

I hope she keeps in good spirits. This should be something straightforward to recover from.
"The worker has the right to leave his boss, but can she do it? And if she does quit him, is it in order to lead a free life; where she will have no master but herself? No, she leaves to sell herself to another employer. She's driven by the same hunger. Thus the worker's liberty is only a theoretical freedom, lacking any means of realization; an utter falsehood."

Thanks everyone. It looks like the home visit will be next week now, but if it goes well, she will stay at home.
