Please don't discourage food manufacturers from catering for vegans!

We're vegans because we want political and social change, not for purity reasons or some made-up idea that getting ANY kind of animal product in us would be bad/a sin/unhealthy/bad karma or whatever. Sure, we do avoid it, but that's not the issue really.

So true. Been vegan just over a year now and at one point I was being a bit too strict (as in, wouldn't eat foods with possible traces of milk etc.). I was making life more difficult than it had to be. But I've read a few posts by members on this forum which made me realise it's not about purity - it's about taking a stance and proving we don't need animal products in the diet. But we have to be pragmatic (up to a point) when it comes to traces of animal products in food which doesn't have any actual animal ingredients. So going to get me some of these cookies!

I have now checked over 12 supermarkets throughout Manchester, Derbyshire and Liverpool and have not found this product. I began to pull my hair out and wonder whether it's only available in the South East?

EDIT - I emailed them and got this reply:

Dear all,

Thank you for your enquiry. We manufacture a product called Fox's Chunkie Dark Chocolate Cookies 200g. However, the chocolate chunks may contain traces of milk protein. In addition, the product is made in a factory, which uses dairy ingredients.

Therefore, i'm not sure if this product would fit in with your dietary requirements.

I hope this information is of some help to you. If you need a list of stockists, then please let me know.

So I replied:

Vegans aren't bothered about traces of dairy ingredients; we're only bothered about recipes that include animal products. There may be a small number of people who stress about cross-contamination, but they are a tiny, attention-seeking minority, who are not representative of vegan consumers.

I'm aware that some people have severe dairy allergies, but they tend to buy products made by specialist allergy-aware companies like Kinnerton.

A list of stockists would be brilliant, thanks.

So ...looks like they can advise anybody who wants to try these biscuits where they can get them.

I got a reply from them about stockists and they said that only Tesco stock them.

THEREFORE team, we have a job on. We need to contact customer services for the other supermarkets and use PESTER POWER

I found them!!!

Holy mother of fuck ... I found them, a mere 0.67 miles from my house!

Not only did I find them, but they were on BOGOF so I bought FOUR packets and snaffled three (cookies, not packets; I'm not THAT mad) while listening to Craig Charles' Trunk of Funk and sweeping broken glass off the floor (got a bit excited).

They really are good for a shop-bought biscuit; the choc chips melt in the mouth and the whole effect is like sinking into a chocolate sofa. Or something.

So anyway, yeah I found them and I told the checkout girl I hoped she had an excellent Saturday night, and then I went home and ATE SOME.

This has got to be the funniest thread. I love it - vegans getting excited about a packet of biscuits.
I had some mates visit who are vegan too and we must have spent 2 days talking about food especially all the new unhealthy stuff we found we can eat It's these little things in life like vegan biscuits that make us happy
