Monday 23/01/12: Woking

Countdown is on, move into the new house on Feb 9th, big pallet of stuff from Buzz being delivered on the 10th, Southern Masters on Feb 18th, then the British on March 17th. Finally got my strength back after being ill, lifting's still a bit ragged but squats are strong.

A) Front squat
60/3x2
110/2
130/1
140/1: feels light...
147/1: heavy, but not limit...
151/1: +1kg PB
141/2: PB
136/2

Rest of the session not worth noting - C&J up to a ragged 90, jerked a limit 95 from the rack on 2nd attempt, back squatted 160. No snatches because of time.
“Begin at the beginning,” the King said gravely, “and go on till you come to the end. Then stop.”

Nice depth.
Not so nice knee cracking.
Whatever:

THE SYSTEM!
The plan:
1) 700 kg total and 290 kg deadlift (IPF RAW Junior World Record)
2) 762,5 kg total and 277,5 kg squat (All-Time Drug Tested RAW World Record with Wraps)
3) 762,5 kg total and 275 kg squat (All-Time Drug Tested RAW World Record without Wraps)
4) 775 kg total (All-Time World Record Total, regardless of testing)

One of Buzz's spring steel ones for squatting, pressing etc, Eleiko for the lifts.

Been a bit slack on the updates front as we're packing everything up ready for the move next week, plus I'm applying for jobs.. 27/01/12 just did a quick session and snatched up to 70, changed my start position which seems to be better provided I pull the bar in properly off the floor.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
30/01/12 Woking

A) Front squat
70/3x2
110/2
130
140
145
148

B) C&J
50/1x3
60/1x2

70
72.5
75
77.5
80
82.5
85
87.5/1x2
90
92
94/F,F clarked it twice

C) Snatch
40/1x4
50/1x3

57.5/1x2

67.5
70
72.5/F,1

D) Jerk from rack

03/02/12: Woking

Possibly the penultimate session at Woking, although if we get everything sorted with the house on Wednesday I'll train then. End of an era...

A) Snatch
40/2x5
50/1x3
55/1x2
60
62.5
65
67.5/F,1
70
72.5
75/F,F,1
76/F

B) C&J
50/3x2
70
80
82.5
85
87.5
90
92.5
95
97.5
100

Decent session. 175 Total which is an equal training PB, and the actual British qualifying total, not 180 as I thought it would be (they dropped it back down again after 2011). Few extra kilos in the tank on the C&J but will save it for Monday which will be the last heavy session before the comp on the 18th.

So we've finally moved up to Leicester where a plethora of awesome South Indian food awaits, together with a great house in a nice area. Home gym is functional but not finished. Still need to buy the Eleiko bar and build the platform. Platform should hopefully be done at the weekend, but the waiting time on an Eleiko is about 3-4 weeks and I still need to find the cheapest supplier.

Training has been pretty rough in the lead up to the comp. Last session at Woking was decent enough. Snatched up to 70 something and jerked 97. managed to get in a couple of sessions at home in the week before the comp, but neither were that great without the Eleiko and platform or the constant heckling of other club members.

Saturday 18/02/12: Southern Masters, Bethnal Green

Got the train down to Woking on the Friday night and stayed at Baldy's flat. Up by 7 the next day to get the train into London. Got to the venue just after 9 and weighed in about 9.30 - 82.1kg AKA liiiiiight. Running order for the day was 2 men's groups, then the women, then a break, then the other 2 men's groups, going from the oldest to the youngest. So I was going to be in the last group starting around 4pm. Going to be a long day...

Decided to open light as there was only one other guy in my age/weight class and his lifts were a fair bit better than mine. I was going to open on 70/90 but snatches have been pretty bad since the move so lowered it to 68. Bar work was snappy, warmups up to 65 felt solid, then I promptly missed my opener behind... Retook it and got it, albeit powered because my head went. Went up to 72 for my 3rd and promptly missed that too. Followed myself on all 3 which wasn't ideal as it didn't give me any time to get my head straight and stop being a spanner.

Mine was a decent sized group, so I had plenty of time to clear my head and warm up for the C&J. Lifts up to 85 all felt solid, jerk felt great, so the decision to not jerk at all for the week and a half before the comp paid off. Opened on 90 and got it, although felt a bit ragged on the clean and the bar was choking me before the jerk. Managed to keep my head clear and smashed the jerk. Was following myself again, so went up to 93 for my 2nd. Too eager to get under and didn't pull the bar in well, racked it forwards and couldn't hold it... Retook it for my 3rd, cleaned it, had to step forwards on the recovery, and then had to get my right hand back under the bar as 2 fingers slipped out when I racked it. Popped it to rerack it but my right hand was way out, smashed the jerk anyway. 68/93/161 - pretty terrible! Props to Baldy for counting lifts for me and generally making sure I didn't bomb completely.

4 weeks to the British where I am determined to not be shit. Annoying thing is that the day before the day the comp had been originally planned for I did a comfy 75/100 and jerked 107 from the rack a couple of days later.

Monday 20/02/12

AM:

Front squat
70/3x3
110
125
140
144: limit

PM:

Snatch
40/2x5
45/2x2
50/1x10

Just a quick session to loosen up after the comp and do some technical work. Gym not in the best state at the moment as the floor is basically rubber on carpet on underlay on concrete, i.e. not solid.

Was a great day, pleasure to second you. When you missed that first lift I think I got more stressed than you.
Not the best comp result, but certainly the most you had in you on that day.
Forward to the British Championships.

good report mate.

A gap between gym lifts and platform lifts is understandable especially in the beginning, but then hopefully over time the gap will get smaller and smaller.

Very few are "platform lifters" who can produce pbs or even near pbs on the platform!
