So we've finally moved up to Leicester where a plethora of awesome South Indian food awaits, together with a great house in a nice area. Home gym is functional but not finished. Still need to buy the Eleiko bar and build the platform. Platform should hopefully be done at the weekend, but the waiting time on an Eleiko is about 3-4 weeks and I still need to find the cheapest supplier.
Training has been pretty rough in the lead up to the comp. Last session at Woking was decent enough. Snatched up to 70 something and jerked 97. managed to get in a couple of sessions at home in the week before the comp, but neither were that great without the Eleiko and platform or the constant heckling of other club members.
Saturday 18/02/12: Southern Masters, Bethnal Green
Got the train down to Woking on the Friday night and stayed at Baldy's flat. Up by 7 the next day to get the train into London. Got to the venue just after 9 and weighed in about 9.30 - 82.1kg AKA liiiiiight. Running order for the day was 2 men's groups, then the women, then a break, then the other 2 men's groups, going from the oldest to the youngest. So I was going to be in the last group starting around 4pm. Going to be a long day...
Decided to open light as there was only one other guy in my age/weight class and his lifts were a fair bit better than mine. I was going to open on 70/90 but snatches have been pretty bad since the move so lowered it to 68. Bar work was snappy, warmups up to 65 felt solid, then I promptly missed my opener behind... Retook it and got it, albeit powered because my head went. Went up to 72 for my 3rd and promptly missed that too. Followed myself on all 3 which wasn't ideal as it didn't give me any time to get my head straight and stop being a spanner.
Mine was a decent sized group, so I had plenty of time to clear my head and warm up for the C&J. Lifts up to 85 all felt solid, jerk felt great, so the decision to not jerk at all for the week and a half before the comp paid off. Opened on 90 and got it, although felt a bit ragged on the clean and the bar was choking me before the jerk. Managed to keep my head clear and smashed the jerk. Was following myself again, so went up to 93 for my 2nd. Too eager to get under and didn't pull the bar in well, racked it forwards and couldn't hold it... Retook it for my 3rd, cleaned it, had to step forwards on the recovery, and then had to get my right hand back under the bar as 2 fingers slipped out when I racked it. Popped it to rerack it but my right hand was way out, smashed the jerk anyway. 68/93/161 - pretty terrible! Props to Baldy for counting lifts for me and generally making sure I didn't bomb completely.
4 weeks to the British where I am determined to not be shit. Annoying thing is that the day before the day the comp had been originally planned for I did a comfy 75/100 and jerked 107 from the rack a couple of days later.
“Begin at the beginning,” the King said gravely, “and go on till you come to the end. Then stop.”
