Ha ha! Yeah he passed through Springfield a few hrs ago where I did my race the other day. He could have done a small detour and tested out the course!
Yeah that Oliver guy is a bit of a freak. Close to 600k's in 2days when I checked last night. Seems to be able to ride at a rel. high intensity continuously and not get tired :?

Sounds like Mr C had a few stomach issues yesterday, so hopefully came good today. Still banging out those k's though :)
First guy Ollie finished the whole course about an hr and a half ago. 1100k's in 3.5days on that terrain is just ridiculous!

Wow .. all those photos from training looks brilliant. Go Mr C!! - Looks like you're having a good one.

Seems a bit weird seeing you as a dot on a map - it kind of trivialises the amount of work and distances you're travelling. Ride strong! Looks like you've got a biiiiig hill coming, but can't see your dot where it should be, hope you're OK :)

Woke up to news on the Twitter feed that he had abandoned or something in Nelson, but was clearly delirious and had actually finished the brevet :D

Well done Cleetus, MASSIVE effort. Looks like some folk are still days off finishing.

You should Bob! Think you'd love it down here and be in your element. At least, the next being in 2014 lots of time to plan :)

Thanks everybody! :)

It was a pretty tough few days, no doubt. 1160km. 5 days, 9 hours, and about a billion metres vertical. It was definitely tougher this year, both in the reverse direction of the course (some nasty rocky climbs) and in my lack of fitness. I had more than my share of my usual stomach problems with nausea most days, but at least there was no vomiting this year! yay. hmmm, I think I enjoyed it, but there was certainly plenty of suffering. I'm keen to do another write up, but I am not sure if I will have time to get around to it (it somehow seems obligatory for this race). I haven't download my pics yet (and didnt take a lot), but here's a link to some from one of the guys I spent a lot of time riding with. http://www.flickr.com/photos/41957928@N00/sets/72157629276020231/ I'll select out some of the better ones later.

so quickly back to normal life!

I also got an email during the Brevet saying I am off the weightlist and am now racing the tri national champs. In 4 weeks! oopsy. What are my chances of getting any swim/run fitness in that time, hmmmmm

ha! don't believe it! That stretch was about 30km in 6 hours - and that's only cuz there was a long downhill stretch :P Actually, it is very beautiful in there (Waiuta and Big River Tracks), but pretty slow going - not much smooth single track like in the pic. It is well worth it though.
