Going vegan =/= health improvements.
Eating better in general = health improvements.
This is something that is lost on a lot of people that go vegan purely for 'health' or 'weight loss' reasons.
Veganism has nothing to do with health, but if you end up healthy because of it that's a good thing.

A useful thing Dave Noisey used to do, on multiple places on the internet, was to repeatedly post a brief history of the word "vegan".
Around 1944 Donald Watson *AND* his wife created the word "vegan" to refer to someone who holds the belief that it is wrong to "exploit" animals, that is, to use them for our own selfish purposes.
A person can eat a "vegan diet" -> meals free of animal products, without actually holding that belief and actually being a "vegan".
The belief and animal product free diets have become conflated and the word "vegan" is mistakenly used for both.
