Thurs - 6 miles with club.. slow nursing a bit of shinsplints because I'm not stretchy enough

Hey IronGirl... yes having an odd time of it at the moment.

Another training week down the tubes, but I was race director for a local running race (heavy organisation) and sadly went to my nan's funeral (she was 103..trooper!)

Cheers...

Sunday - Lovely 6 mile muddy one through the woods. I love wearing my waterproof socks, it makes you aim FOR the puddles rather than dance round :)

Monday - 6 miles nice and muddy, ran past the wallabies & water deer in Whipsnade Zoo, stopped and had a little chat with them :) Feel better in my shin and can feel myself improving - first 4 days running in a row for a while = happy skoptic!

Tue - 6 miles with the club (tea night so shorter run than usual) .. did some speedwork, shin feels fine. 5 days in a row and counting :)

Also I signed up for my 1st event since double ironman.. oh... my.. god.... I can't believe that I ended up taking an 18 month holiday from events. Training has been patchy during that time, I need the focus of events so I'm very happy to have one paid for and in the diary :)

Not one to be too complacent, I have signed up for the Compton Challenge - a 40 mile ultra round the Chiltern Hills with 4000ft ascent. It's in 10 weeks and my weekly mileage has been <10 for ages! Ha!

Still I'm running it for a good friend who has suffered a brain haemorrhage and has had 2 brain ops, and fell into a coma. He's out of the coma, but the extent of brain damage is still unknown. He's only 34 with 4 kids and a wife - a tragic situation :( If there is anything that will get you round a race it's a good cause, so bring on the hills I say! Proper training started for sure..

(race is 2 weeks before my wife's due date!)

Sun - snowing, so didn't run .. would have been through fields and was worried about turning my ankle
Mon - 1st turbo bike ride (still very snowy)
Tue - 10 mile run ... to make up for Sun.. 1st time in double digits for a while, seemed fine. Still only a 1/4 of the ultra I have to do in 9 weeks .. but think I'll be fine.

Wed - 4 treacherous and stiff miles across frozen snowy fields and paths. Tough after yesterday's run ... also not enough calories in the tank.
