Over thinking alert!

I hook gripped up until about 200kg, then changed to mixed and got an extra couple of KG's cos my grip was failing with hook grip. My grip is hardly ever an issue though, so it will be different for you.

People pull huge lifts with hook, so I dont think give up on it. Cant find much online about Vincent Urbank, but he does mention lifting weights as a teenager, so I reckon its a good bet he was doing olympic lifts, so has spent years hook gripping.

thanks Baldy :) I mentioned the muscle fiber thing because I've also experienced being able to lift more when I grip the bar tightly with most of the lifts.

Anyway the wrist is fast recovering :)

I was hoping everyone had forgotten about my rash acceptance of this challenge.
I can stand being bottom of the table, but not even having a weight against my name was a bit too much.

So, after no lifting for a few months, I went outside with my cycling gloves on, because the bar's freezing, and did;

1x100kg
1x130kg
1x150kg Failed
1x135kg

In at 135kg then. A long way to go.

Good effort after a couple of months of not lifting...did you do any warm-up sets or did you just go straight in at 1x100kg?

good work both you guys! Race is heating up nicely :)

Wolf: You had 165kg before right? so muscle memory should be good for fast progress to 170kg!

As for me, I didn't want to do this to you guys but the hooks are coming (temporarily at least) off for a 165kg attempt on tuesday!

updated to here

also rule clarification: as with other races, when the first person hits 180kg everyone else has exactly one week to equal it and so tie the race.

Hmmm, my current max is 136 but I think I might have a go at a serious pb attempt tomorrow. It's been a while.

I just checked my log. It looks I haven't lifted since March 2010.
No warm up, straight in at 100kg.

I've come down with flu. Seems like I'll be out of the race even before making a PB-attempt...
