13th Jan

Weight:65kg

Squat: 20kgx10 40kgx10 70kg 5x5
Shoulder press: 16kg DBs 5x5
Deadlift: 40kgx8 75kgx5

Did some foam rolling so didn't have time for cycling. Deadlifts didn't involve anywhere near as much effort as last time so it must have just been the sore/stiffness. Shoulder presses aren't feeling shakey anymore so back to a bar. I figure I may as well log warm ups too

No worries. I wish I wasn't there at that time, seems everyone is back now so lunch times is a bad idea.

Hope your stomach's alright

15th Jan

Row 38kg 5x5
Bench 20kgx10 45kg 5x5
Squat 40kgx15 72kg 5x5

cycling for 20mins

Rows was a DB cause the gym was busy. Glutes only hurt on the third sets of squats which is much better than there being no obvious reason for it

17th Jan

Weight 67.1kg

Squat: 20kg x10 40kg x10 75 kg 5x5
Shoulder Press: 35kg 5x5
Deadlift: 40kg x5 80kg x5

My weight bemuses me but that's 10kg gained since starting working out without my body fat changing much (as measured by how my belly looks). I've decided no yoga until my dissertation is handed in which is just another month

20th Jan

Squat: 20kg x10 50kg x10 60kg x5 77kg 5x5
Bench: 20kg x10 47kg 5x5
something that vaguely resembled some rows

Crap session. I got a pile of wood dropped on my foot on Wednesday. I started slower on squats but was fine cause it only hurt to move it. Then 5mins after squats it started seriously hurting which made my bench go to hell and I gave up on rows quickly.

I decided I should get my foot checked. It's not broken and the ligaments are fine but I'm not allowed to squat until I can move my toes. I don't know how long that'll be, hopefully not long. Deadlifts are fine since I do less and don't move my feet so I guess I'll do them every work out and do some assistence exercises on deads day.

sorry to hear about your foot. The FASIC physios at the CSE are really good.

23rd Jan

Shoulder Press 20kgx10 37kg 5x5
Deadlift 40kgx5 85kg x5
push ups 20x3
plank 60sx2 45s
reverse crunch 20x3

I didn't think I was going to manage 5x5 on shoulder presses today so I'm quite chuffed that I did. Need to remember to warm up on deadlifts more. That third plank so would have been 60s but I had to sneeze. planks were with my feet over a foam roller so my weight was on my shins and push ups were cross legged.

thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I can sort of wiggle my big toe now so hopefully it'll fix itself fairly quick

25th Jan

Bench: 20kg x10 30kg x10 40kg x5 50kg 5x5
Deadlift: 40kg x10 60kg x5 80kg x2
Row: 40kg 5x5

My lower back doesn’t seem to agree with deadlifts so often. But I saw my GP today (for something else) and he thinks the other doctor is an idiot. He says I can do whatever so long as it doesn’t seriously hurt as long as I keep doing my toe exercise. I like that idea more cause no squats sucks. I usually think my GP is an idiot so maybe I’m an idiot for deciding to take his view.

28th Jan

Weight: 66.7kg

Some squats, mostly light but a few heavy
Row 42kg dumbbell 5x5
Bench: 20kg x12 40kg x10 52.5kg 5x5
Hanging from things 30s x3 20sx2

Squats felt all right, not good though once it got heavy. Hanging is to pre-empt my grip causing my deadlift problems. I did the wrong workout though I’m not sure how/why I got confused

30th Jan

Squat: 20kg x10 40kg x10 60kg x5 70kg 5x5
Shoulder Press: 20kg x10 40kg 3x5 1x4 1x3
Deadlift: 40kg x5 60kg x5 70kg x1 (held at the top) 90kg x1

Shit deadlift. My lower back still isn't happy. It didn't feel right on squats either. By the end getting the weights off the bar was hard work. I didn't expect it to be easy since 90kg is the most I've ever deadlifted but I feel like a bit of a pensioner just now. I'm going to film myself doing some light deadlifts tommorow to check it isn't just my technique being horrid

Happy that my foot is feel all right, the bruising is near enough gone and it's only uncomfortable. I'm very happy with the shoulder press.

1st Feb

Squat: 20kgx10 40kgx10 50kgx5 60kgx5 72kg 5x5
Bench: 20kgx10 40kgx5 55kg 5x5
Row: 20kg x5 45kgx5
Some cycling that I didn’t write down

I had a row realisation. I’m not getting the bar to my chest when I use a bar but using a dumbbell is easy. It was stupid to be using dumbbells in the first place because it won’t be doing my bench as much good. Between that and grumpy back I think it’d make sense to deload a bit and do it properly.

I filmed myself and I think if the problem with my deadlifts is techniques then it’s my shins sometimes getting too far from the bar. I guess doing that 1 or 2 lifts of every 5 could add up to an annoyed back. I’ll deload to 75 and hopefully that’ll allow my back to rest a bit and me to watch my shins. Hopefully it’s that simple

I need to reconsider my diet sometime soon too. 3000 calories is killing me just now. I still need to eat that much but I need to make it easier.

4th Feb

Weight 66.1

Squat: 40kgx10 50kgx5 60kgx5 75kg 1x5 1xf 4x5
Shoulder Press: 20kg x10 30kg x5 40kg 5x5
Deadlift: 40kg x lots
cycling

I’m deciding the f squat doesn’t really count. My foot cramped so I went squint then I hit the rack and went more squint and was too off balance to go back up. It’s the first time I had a to bail on a squat so good to know how easy it is.

I planned to do 75kg deadlift. Paying attention to technique made me realise my technique is much more crap than I thought. I’m lifting it off the ground with my back then after an inch or two going from my legs. That would explain the sore back and why my best deadlift is 20kg lighter than my squat. So no lifting heavy until I fix that.

I should do hangs on bench day cause after shoulder presses it just isn't happening.
