Well although I use the Ironmind belt I do use it in the 'dip belt' style you refer to, rather than with a bar (used to use an EZ bar but it got bent to f*ck on the bigger weights). Guess I just like living dangerously :) At the end of the day no workout regime is 100% safe; if you never get injured you're not working hard enough 8)

Good work!

Oh you're so crazy with that belt squat, e.g 5x105

How is your hip/back nowadays? Would it be possible to try rear squat in near future? My back is getting better, I think.. No hurry to break it again, but maybe some day it might be possible to start rear squatting again. DL is still banned, maybe forever...

Hip is always going to be an issue as left joint is effectively the wrong shape - so f*ck all that can be done about it. Back is great day-to-day provided I take zero risks in the gym. I'm resigned to never squatting normally to be honest, not a big deal.

Cycle 2.5

7x38.75
9x20

Pull Ups:
3x10

Cross Pulls:
3x5

ATB:
3x10

Sorry to hear.

Yes, you're right, it's better to avoid the risk - but sometimes hard, at least for me... Especially when back feels absolutely fine but still don't know how much and what it would last.

Back feeling better today but still quite painful. Can't get to gym again now until Friday so decided to squat today anyway & see how it felt.

Cycle 2.5
Workout 2

Belt Squat:
6x60
3x80
3x90
3x100
2x110 - fail on 3rd
2x110 - fail on 3rd
2x110 - fail on 3rd
3x100
5x90
10x80

GHR:
3x10

Belt Calf Raise:
3x10x80

Very little pain whilst squatting but subpar performance due to lack of bottle. Today's top set should have been tough but do-able as I've tripled this weight before. Tempted to have another go on Friday when (hopefully) back will be fully recovered but I guess that's cheating :)

Bit short of time today but a good session to end the week nonetheless. Decided to repeat squat as my back's now much better - definitely felt more comfy today & no fear. Pull ups felt strong too - focused on grip (.e. squeezing upwards harder than usual with palms) & it seemed to help.

Cycle 2.5
Workout 2

Scaffold Pull Ups:
6@BW
3x12.5
3x23.75
6x35
6x23.75
8x12.5

Belt Squat:
3x60
3x80
3x90
3x100
4x110

Cross Pull / Close Grip Chin / Ring Dip supersets:
3x5 / 3x5 / 3x5

Hi Jim,

what is your hip problem?

Is it anything like this?: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=23614

Hi mate, yeah maybe it's a similar issue, although having read your other thread I think my 'problem' is more minor. Essentially I was told by an orthpedic surgeon that I have some ossification (think that's the word!) of my left hip joint, i.e. extra bone browth, so the mechanics of the joint are ever so slightly thrown off as the joint is not the correct shape.

Day to day the only issue this causes is a very gentle dull ache in the joint (now I'm thinking about it I can feel it, but never really notice it otherwise); the problem for me comes when I do any type of spinal loading e.g. squats. Like you, my dodgy hip biomechanics cause my pevis to tilt & in turn this pulls on my lower spine.

On a related note my f*cked up hip also means I get pain if I squat with a really wide stance, so I keep things as norrow as I can.

To me personally the idea of having some kid of surgical intervention at a relatively young age (I'm mid 30s) purely so that I can pursue a hobby is over the top, plus there's no way I'd get it done on the NHS & no way I could afford to have it done privately. As my training log shows though I can still train pretty well, just have to be inventive :D

Here's one more "hip osteoarthritis"! I have very similar symptoms with Jim. Usually not much pain, just bit clicking and clacking. I think the worst thing right now is that it will cause wrong position to lower back. That's probably one reason why my back went broken about year ago. So here are at least three of us... Let's keep up the fight!

I see! Yes sounds like we have a similar thing going on, but with different causes. I should get down a physio, but i don't think the problem is muscle related but it's worth checking anyway.

I'm glad it doesn't cause you much day to day aggro :)

And as you said yeh, training looks good man, I've checked in on your log a couple of times because of your bodyweight stuff. Tends to be what I do.

Cycle 2.5
Workout 3

Dips:
5x15
5x30
5x45
3x57.5
1x70 - got 2nd rep moving but alas
3x57.5
5x45

Ring Rows:
3x10

Ring Push Ups:
3x10 + 1 chain

At this point realised someone had hidden 1 of the platforms that I use for squatting & spent 10 minutes looking for it - turns out it was being used to prop up the gym's sound system! So eventually:

Belt Squat:
3x10x80
