I really shouldn't but... she's tiny and needs help... and she moves in on Friday :D

I will of course post pics when pussycat number thirteen has safely arrived.

Well that's why I really shouldn't... if I hadn't taken in the last two abandoned mummy cats I would have six less but they're all so lovely :D

My little one is the one at the front -

Better pics will of course follow :D

Wow that's a lot of cats!!!

I have 1 cat and only becasue I felt sorry for her as she was put up for rehoming as current owners did not want her but have to admit I really struggle with her and my veganism. I know you can get vegan cat food but I just don't feel right giving her vegan food so I have to fight with my beliefs everyday I feed her :(

What diet do you feed your tribe?

My lot have normal cat food as I don't believe a meat free diet would be in their best interests.

Don't feel so bad at 13. I know someone who has 20 cats (but she also lives in a rural area and has 5 acres/2 hectares of land . . .)

Yeah that's cool. I guess everyday I dish up her dish of rabbit and chicken or whatever it is the thought of how it's got there will never escape me as it's the thing that keeps me vegan in the first place :)

I did give her dried biscuits but had issues with her not having enough water in her day!

Someone for Christmas gave her some sachets of stuff - god damn it's like liquid chicken! She loves it though. Not a pleasant experience dishing it up.

So is there room for you in the bed with 13 cats?? I cannot imagine having that many to look after. You can't have enough lap space for a start :D

I tried mine on Ami Cat (Italian vegan cat food) after they went off the Burns Holistic Chicken food they were on before. They loved it so much they started clamouring and miowing at meal times and eating every last bit of food (they used to leave some), so I've kept them on it. They're energetic and lively and their fur is as glossy as ever. We mix a little pH-balanced pouch food into the male cat's portion to guard against any bladder issues, so he's about 90% vegan, but the female cat is now totally vegan.

If I see any signs at all that they aren't thriving on the Ami Cat I'll switch back to meat food, but so far (about 6 months on Ami) I have no concerns at all.

I have two friends who each have two tomcats. All of the cats have been fed Evolution for years and are extremely healthy. Shiny coats, lots of energy, no health problems and trim/muscular ( indoor cats )

I feel like another option is to take the middle ground, and go with an organic feed. Our kitty uses Organix Cat Food (http://www.castorpolluxpet.com/product/organix-adult-cat-food). I have considered mixing her food with a vegan cat food, but all of the vegan food products seem quite processed. I wish there was a better option out there, but I feel that we know too little about cat metabolism and nutrition for a vegan food to be as healthy for them as a meat-based product. It's easy as humans, since our protein needs are so much lower, but cats have a much higher protein need, and it is hard to satisfy that with vegan foods without resorting to processing and extracting. Ideally we could stuff them full of high protein vegan foods (peas, soybeans, etc.) and then make up the rest of their protein intake with actual meat from the butcher, but that is unrealistic and too costly. If I was living alone, I simply wouldn't have a cat, but my girlfriend really wanted one and so now we must compromise. Such is life!

Cat food ingredients (ignoring vitamins):

Ami Cat: Corn gluten, corn oil, rice protein, peas, pea fiber, brewer's yeast, linseed, potato protein extract

Evolution: non GMO oats, Non GMO whole Oats, Corn Gluten Meal, Soybean Meal, Soybean Oil, Molasses, Carrots, Dried Tomato Pomace, Yeast

Organix: Organic Chicken, Chicken Meal, Organic Peas, Organic Brown Rice, Organic Barley, Pea Protein, Organic Chicken Fat, Salmon Meal, Organic Flaxseed, Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Egg Product
Lovin' it!
