Sounds like you have turned something frustrating round into an opportunity. Are the local field classes a military fitness kind of thing?

You can definitely get plenty out of life without ever needing to step inside a gym :D

I think the local outdoor classes are that sort of thing but not run by military trained people. Which is a shame - I want to do a British Military Fitness session but there's none for a while round here. But as you say, the world is one big gym, God has left hills to run up (for those without mystery muscle strains), places to explore, water to swim in and after resting on the eighth day thought up loads of bodyweight exercises and ways to use a Z-bar. I suppose for years he never had a training partner either.

This week's training:
None, I had a cold. I've been a big blouse this week, slept loads and whinged a lot. Great restart to the log, I don't think. But my mind is ready to come back to training.

Good to have you logging again mate! Sounds like a while cross-training is what's needed, persistent over-use injuries are a fecker. Good to hear the new job is keeping ya pecker up, and an 80kg bench for someone who's spent most their time as a runner is seriously impressive! :-D

Thanks Stoaty, the new work is great, my head is buzzing and unlike revious jobs, it's great to go home and NOT stop thinking about work.

As for training, I keep thinking more about strength. Fitness will not be forgotten, but I've even started thinking about a 100k BP by end Dec 2012...who knows.

Recent training:
Sun
Deck of cards
- Lunge (both legs)
- 20kg curl x 3
- leg drop on abs
- Mountain climbers

Mon
gym. Mostly push. 5 x 5 x 60kg bp, military press, shoulder press, lat pull downs. Did 10 mins on the eliptical trainer and my leg seemed Ok with it.

Wed
46 press ups.

10 min curl test for max:
24kg - 260
20kg - 287. Both big Pbs (although 20kg pb when done without the 24kg before is 311). I must be getting stronger.
BW stable at 76kg.

A target that seems so far away and yet acheivable as I'm just getting stronger.

Thurs and Fri - no training.
Sat - early start and did my 30 min press up test. I haven't done this for ages and did 382 - Pb from a while back was 394. Next time, 400.

Followed by Pack of cards
- Medicine ball power overs
- Reverse crunch
- Lunge (each leg)
- 2 Hindu Squats

Monday
Gym. Bench press up to 82.5kg. Floor wipers, military press, shoulder press, lat pulldowns. Finished with 11 mins on the elliptical trainer and the leg felt good.

Tues

10 min Z bar curls
24kg - 265 reps (pb)
20kg - 296 reps (pb)

Very quick build up to bodyweight bench, obviously a strong guy.
You not tempted to have a go at deadlift and squat just to see what powerlifting would be like?

Cheers Baldy, I feel I have more natural strength than I have speed, so yes, I do think about powerlifting. The squat and deadlift are things I need to have a look at. I need to change gyms, the current one is convenient but there is one where Michaela Breeze trains nearby. She's represented Britain at Commonwealth and Olympic levels (got world titles) so that seems the obvious place.

I am a little concerned about how deadlifts will go as I have some strange thing going on with my hamstring but lets see how it goes.

It will make your hamstrings even stronger! (or make the problem worse)

31st
I hate New Year so I got up early and went to the gym so I could be asleep long before midnight.
Elliptical trainer warm up
BP 40k warm up
5x70
2x3x80
5x5x70
5x5x60

Lat Pulldown
5x63
5x5x70

Shoulder Press
5x5x40
5x45

Leg press
5x5x151

military press with 15k dumbells
12 min elliptical trainer.

Asleep by 10:30pm

Sun 1
10 mins dumbell curls
24kg - 245
20kg- 250

Tues 3rd
30 min press ups 491

Thurs - Gym induction.
Decided to have a look at a powerlifting gym. Got some instruction, learned to squat and deadlift. Squatted 70kg.

The instructor wanted to see me lift a difficult weight so we went up to 120kg which was clean, then 130kg which I got up with a dodgy grip. Enjoyed it, it seems a quiet gym but the other users and trainer seem good, cheap. At a school so limited hours, but a plus is that it was designed by Michaela Breeze, multiple gold medal winner.

Feeling ready to have a run at powerlifting!

Fri 6
Pack of cards
Chin
Wipers (32.5k)
Military press
Lunge
