Green Smoothie Phone App

Postby Fallen_Horse » Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:19 pm

Hi everyone,
I know we aren't big on selling products here (or over on VBB, where I also posted this), but I wanted to let everyone know about an app I just found last night on the Android Market (also the iPhone App Store). It's by Victoria Boutenko and her family, and it's called 'Green Smoothies'. It's a pretty good app, it has all the smoothie recipes from her book, and it's only $2. If you are into green smoothies at all then I recommend checking it out!

Just made threee recipes from the app, mostly because they were easy. They actually turned out amazing though! These are beginner green smoothies so they have enough fruit to keep picky eaters happy. Then I made another one of my own, which was also good. Enjoy!

Watermelon Kale
600 grams watermelon (4 cups cubed)
200 grams kale (3.5 cups chopped)
Blend with 1 cup very cold water. Enjoy!

Honeydew Romaine
1 head romaine lettuce
1 medium/large honeydew, peeled
Blend with 1-2 cups very cold water. Enjoy!

Honeydew Beet
2 large bananas, chilled
15 beet green leaves
2 cups grapes, chilled
Blend with 1 cup very cold water. Enjoy!

Watermelon Cucumber
4 cups watermelon
2 medium/large cucumber, peeled
Blend with 1 cup very cold water. Enjoy!

Doesn't drinking several cups worth of greens at once cause "digestive distress:" ( gas ) ?

Hmm, I haven't had an issue, but perhaps that's due to the blending? The recipes I listed are 2 servings each (I share with my GF), so maybe drinking the whole recipe at once would be bad? My 'trouble foods' seem to be broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage....

I handle those quite well. I even handle kale okay if it is cooked and I don't eat too much. I don't see how people can eat collard greens raw and not be starting fires.

Haha, perhaps it just comes down to individual variations in gut bacteria? Do all blended veggies do it to you?

Just the serious ( not lettuce, spinach ) leafy greens. I can handle eating about 1 cup chopped a day without discomfort if I take a break every few days. More than that is too much and I noticed that many smoothie recipes have people drinking at least a cup of blended leafy greens at a time.
