Aldi mince pies aren't vegan this year, due to the addition of milk powder. To say I'm gutted is an understatement.

I might go raw just 'cause I can't be arsed to cook ;) .. and I love cake!

I'm pretty sure raw foodists spend more time chopping and dehydrating than most people do cooking

Lots of things that are "raw" are not actually raw. Like cashews, which are usually cooked to remove their caustic, toxic coating. One of my favourite cakes is raw, actually. It's also one of the most fattening things I've ever made, upward of 600 calories a slice.

Anyway, my rant is that I have suddenly found out that almost everything containing lemons at the Co-op contains shellac, which is made of beetle secretions. I don't want beetle secretions in my houmous! I don't want beetle secretions in anything. Why would you deliberately add beetle secretions to anything? WHY?!

Then again, at least they have it written on the box.

I've seen before on their orange lollies that they're not suitable for vegans because the oranges may have been coated in Shellac. Was it a MAY or a definate? You're right it's totally lame. But in that case any fruit you're buying at the supermarket, anything with juice etc, could be considered non vegan for this. They put the shellac on to make the fruit shine.

Got a flyer from Tesco raving about their massive new 'vegetarian' range of products.

I go to Tesco.

Find the following:
- shedloads of quorn
- lots of new Linda Mac stuff that is full of cheese
- lots of Tivall stuff with egg in it
- half a dozen new lines of Tesco-brand vegetarian stuff, only one that is vegan
- falafels that have milk powder in them (seriously, WTF?)
- no more cheezly, instead a bunch of lactose-free dairy cheese

Apparently, it's been legal to have horse slaughterhouses inspected by the usda here in the states for a couple weeks and tons of people have been outraged about it the past 3 days. Why do they care? They'll support killing cows, pigs, chickens, fish and humans but if you want to eat a horse or a dog that makes you a sick fuck.

This is possibly not an issue in other places, but I live in the "horse capital of the world"(well, one of five of them  )so this kind stuff has rich old douche bags standing on the side of the road waving "nobama" signs spewing all sorts of racist bullshit.

Firstly, Marks and Spencer have SOLD OUT of nut roast, told me they'd get some in tomorrow but it was 'early bird catches the worm'. However they had loads of turkeys, why are they sold out of Nut Roast and not turkeys?! Maybe thats a good thing lol.

Then Waitrose told me they 'don't do a specific nut roast this year' ?!

Ok so yesterday I went to a J.D. wetherspoons pub for my birthday with my brother and a friend, as Wetherspoons on a thursday have a curry night and one of there curries is vegan. So anyway, got there, had a drink or two then ordered. It wasn't a particularly busy night, but despite this they didn't have any of about five curries, including the one vegan curry . So I had the joy of chips instead. Wasn't very happy.

Wetherspoons label there vegan food online and it's awesome they have a vegan curry (this only occurs on a thursday). But I was not chuffed, kinda spoilt my birthday at least for that moment.

So I am thinking of not emailing, but writing a letter of complaint and telling them how it would be great if they could increase their vegan food options even more and that that this food can be eaten by vegetarians not just vegans, and they will do so if it's tasty enough.

But really I want them to send me a coupon or something as I don't feel an apology would make me feel much better! Unless it's an especially nice one!

Any idea on how likely that is?

I know man it sucks, I always look like a bellend looking at each products ingredients, it's almost always egg/milk powder, sometimes there'll be something that would have been great if it weren't covered with layers of cheese or some shit.
mind you lidl is the worst, they label a lot of foods suitable for vegans but under allergy advice it'll read "may contain shellfish" or even "CONTAINS shellfish" I shit you not..

Uhg, my rant right now is trying to organize a bunch of lazy vegans! I'm putting on a vegan Thanksgiving fundraiser on Nov. 10th and these other vegans (four, at least!) have hounded me endlessly to add a kids area in so they don't have to get a babysitter. So I personally shelled out US$100 to rent these rooms but now all of the sudden all these people that bugged me so much can't be bothered to spend a few hours watching these kids and I might have to cancel the rooms even though I won't get a rebate (too late for that) because there aren't enough adults.

Lesson at the end of the day? From my point of view, haters gonna hate, don't listen to them even if they whine at you constantly. Or, from the other end, never criticize an organizer unless you can personally help solve the problem!

This kind of breaks my heart a little bit, my only request whenever it's my birthday is to go somewhere that does vegan cake, can't imagine not even being able to have a main course. Happy birthday though!
