I eat TVP products sometimes and it is maybe the most widely available soy product. I have seen it in both Costa Rica and Mexico - it is common even in many small town grocery stores in both those countries. In the USA and Canada, I have mostly seen it in natural food store or Asian markets.

http://www.enerex.ca/en/articles/to-the ... foundationThis misinformation and deception is being promoted and distributed by the Weston A. Price Foundation and their ignorant followers. This foundation is promoting dairy products and animal foods as being the ideal diet for humans, and they are fanatical about discrediting any other dietary regime, especially those that teach avoidance of dairy products and animal protein. They totally disregard the thousands of published scientific articles that warn of the dangers of over-consumption of dairy products and animal protein. They are especially fanatical about discrediting the soybean, which has become popular in the West in the last 20 years, although it has been a stable of the Asian diet for thousands of years. The soybean is seen as a major threat to the dairy and meat industry as more and more consumers are taking seriously the overwhelming body of evidence that warns of the health risks of the traditional Western diet, and are seeking nutritious alternatives. The soybean has proven more than adequate as a replacement for milk and animal protein. Cultures that consume soybeans rather than dairy have a much lower incidence of the popular Western diseases such as cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and arthritis.

If you're going to be concerned about soy, I think the agriculture end is where your concerns about excessive intake should be focused but that's a completely different debate/thread. With that said, moderation is key with soy, just like it is with anything.

Regardless of who is right in this debate we've given up on soy.
We didn't like it too much anyway and are sticking to other types of milk alternatives, beans, lentils, nuts etc.

Just to sway things to the pro-soy side, here's a cool pic
