Help me catch up to those kids!

Postby LvH » Sat Nov 05, 2011 2:30 am

Hi vegan fitness people!

I have been vegan for a year and a half, and vegetarian for five years, for animal welfare.

I'm hoping to next year be able to keep up with my running clubs (I'm in 2, the one at my job is all college students plus me - I'm older - I'm on staff at the school). At the moment I start out with the groups and usually quickly get left behind, so it would be a lot more fun if I could keep up for the whole run! Sometimes someone else slow will be there, but you see what I mean.

I'm American but grew up in South Africa. I've lived in Boston, Los Angeles, Pennsylvania and now Ohio. It's all been downhill since L.A. in terms of restaurants!

Welcome, good to have another South African on the board!
If your running with a club already, your probably well on your way to keeping up with them, probably just a matter of time.
What training do you do? Maybe start keeping a training log so people can comment on your progress.

Thanks for the welcome dublin dave and loveliberate!

Baldy, hi! I wish I could afford to go on the South Africa trip you guys are planning, it looks great! I went to some of those places as a kid - Knysna, Addo - so beautiful. You all will have a great time. Thanks for what you said re the running, I am headed to the vegan runners pages soon! Also, your avatar / picture is impressive.

Hi ya

*waving* from Australia :)

Nice to meet you. I'm impressed that you're in not only 1 but 2 running groups! I'd be mortified to try and run with anyone else at the moment I'm sooooooo slow. Just doing the start of a C25k and I'm only in week 2! Keep up the great work :)

Thanks for the welcome jmiller and divergirl!

Jmiller I see you're from upstate New York, are you anywhere near a very wooded area called Beckett? I think it was upstate? It was so pretty there!

Divergirl, I’m just really lucky that where I work has a very inclusive running club. The head of that club introduced me to the other club she’s in. They are even more inclusive. They are a women’s group that encourages women of all abilities to run, bike and swim. You would definitely be in if you lived here. There are also men in the club and people bring their dogs too!

My family lived outside Sydney when I was ages 2 – 4 years old, but I really don’t remember it at all, so I didn’t mention it earlier. I’m dying to go to Australia one day for a visit!

Anyway you will kick butt with the C25k, I have heard really great things about it, so just hang in there!!!

Jmiller, I googled it and I'm an idiot because Becket is in Massachusetts. I went on a hike there with my Mom because she inherited a tiny bit of land there. She also lived in New York when she was a kid. Obviously, Becket must be in upstate New York!
