The squat thread

The ultimate test of overall strength.

Squat > deadlift, and everything else for that matter.

Discuss squatting, different techniques, loves, hates, share advice, post videos.. anything to do with squatting.

If I don't squat for a week I feel guilty, true story.

squat is THE LIFT!

because of my ass injury i havent been able to squat properly, heavy enough or with enough volume - and it shows everywhere.

Case in point my overhead drive - suffered.

Farmers walk pickups - turned to shit.

bowel movements - irregular.

When squats go well, i feel everything else will follow. I just feel gerenally stronger overall.

Cant wait for the squats to start fly again!

Opinions on technique:
The Olympic-style squat sucks hard. Neither does it resemble the two classic lifts nor does it focus on the legs entirely (that would be the front squat). You just take out a lift for good hip development (pl-style squat).

Other than that: Get under the bar and squat. What the hell is wrong with squatting? What are you, afraid?

generally squat 3x week.
generally: Mon: 5x10x75%, Wed: 5x5x85%, Fri: 3x3x95%

i feel dirty if i skip squats. But I'm currently battling squat depth right now. need another inch or 2.

that clip is pretty wild.
1st: barely room for the bar clips at the ends.
2nd: no one iseven worrying about spotting him.
3rd: check his shins out. that's what Baldy means by "smash the bar more into your shins" during deadlifts.

Best squat on youtube.

Tried some high bar squats last night, worked up in sets of 5 reps to 110kg. Felt really comfortable. I think for a low bar squatter I'm always pushing my knees out way past my toes and not shoving my butt back and leaning into it enough. Always trying to stay upright basically, high bar allows me to do that a lot better. Might be worth looking into.

Some squatting facts:

1) The one thing that is certain in lifting is that you must squat.
2) Squats finish at the bottom, not before. If you're not at the bottom you haven't finished squatting. Let's apply the same degree of rigour we apply to the bench press and the deadlift.
3) Do not fear the squat. Do not be intimidated by the squat. You must get under the bar and show it who is the boss.
4) Squat heavy. Squat hard.
5) Push for the extra kilo. 1kg a month is 12kg a year. 1kg a month is easy. Do more.
