Potluck suggestions

So some mates are leaving to return to America and they have organised a BBQ and potluck get together. I don't like BBQ's that are full of meat which this will be as I'm the only vegan. In fact I don't even know any of the group to be veggie Anyway I have to push all that aside. I want to take some vegan dishes that folk will think are fab. Any suggestions out there? A mixed bean chilli is the obvious choice but I was wondering what other ideas the VF crowd could suggest

I tend to go to the sweeter side of things and will often bring a nice coffee cake or something. (the recipe I use is here)

Thanks frostfire maybe a nice cake might just be the way to go I don't like coffee but then I noticed the link doesn't have coffee in the recipe it is just the spices that taste like coffee? Or have I just been stupid and it's staring me in the face!!

I made some nice raisin and carrot muffins the other day so they might be perfect!

Hi JS - must be a cultural thing! I had no idea you didn't have "coffee cake" on your side of the pond My mom always told me it was called thus because it went well with coffee or tea for breakfast, but according to Wikipedia, the spices are supposed to resemble coffee. Who knows, I just know I like it

Besides Frostfires great suggestion of vegan/ized desserts - how about hummus and/or Guacamole and/or Salsa with corn chips and/or sliced veggies, beverages, dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) - basically any stuff thats usually vegan even when non-veg folks make it it!

i second loveliberate. whenever i've tried to go "impressive" at potlucks, people get freaked and don't eat the stuff. go simple, go appetizers and just make sure you bring enough to take care of yourself if what you make ends up being a hit :^)
