Extra calories burned HIIT

Postby muchluv » Wed Sep 14, 2011 5:38 pm

HIIT is promoted as a very good way to lose fat. Does anybody know how many calories are burned extra through raised metabolism? I have recently started doing 1hour on the crosstrainer at a time, and could do this 2 or 3 times a week if I want. That burns more than 700kcal, just wondered if HIIT would manage to do 700.. somehow I doubt it?
Although the effeminate nature of my username may suggest otherwise, my gender actually falls into the male category.

The Wiki article has some good information about it (with links to the studies), specifically the 'Benefits' subsection...

Re: Extra calories w/HIIT, at the potential expense of injur

HIIT is a good option to mix in on occasion but a variety of moderate intensity, longer duration exercise leads to better long term calorie burn and maintenance-

HIIT and fast burn coupled with an injury will lead to time off and weight gain
