The Kettlebell Thread.

Postby baldy » Wed Aug 31, 2011 9:13 am

Seems to have been a little bit of a kettlebell revolution lately, with lots of kettlebell stuff in training logs.
Please post your favourite kettlebell exercises.

My favourite kettlebell exercise that I just discovered is the KB uppercut.

isn't this called "figure 8" as well? or is it different, somehow?

one of my favourite sources for kb exercises is catalyst athletics. every exercise has its short video and explanation. anton pointed it out!

Dunno, part of the reason I started this thread was so that I could learn the proper names. I think its little different from a figure of 8, because you swing it up and do an uppercut*.

* commonly known as a curl

I love the simpleness of "Swings".

And who doesn't enjoy a "Snatch"?

Halos and ribbons are good core styrengthners.

Goblet squat
Swing
Press
Row
Suitcase carry

All you need, and if you swing properly you can ditch the rows. Add in some pushups and you can ditch the press.

Your utilitarian approach does not seem to take into account what exercises are the most fun. I find swings totally boring.

You are DEAD INSIDE.

This afternoon I will go outside and do 250 swings in memory of your lost humanity.

Clearly you guys are just too weak to be able to do enough to get bored.

Honestly though imagine your in a park and someone is just doing kettlebell swings, its not very sexy. The person juggling and pressing a kettlebell, they are going to look like the kettlebell master. Plus if they have been doing KB uppercuts they will have pumped biceps. Mr kettlebell swinger might as well keep his t-shirt on.

Mr Kettlebell Swinger is going to look jacked without taking his shirt off, thanks to his beefy lats and hamstrings, and the fact he's using a bell twice the weight of Mr Juggler.

Juggling is for hippies and clowns.

baldy, if you want your swings to be less boring, mix them with burpees like i did today

of the last i learned, i found these quite interesting:
- one-leg romanian deadlift
- sidebend
- halo
- topside halfmoon
- cross chop

the first because of the difficulty
the others because they don't involve legs as much as many other drills
i'm focusing on some kind of stuff

Only managed 175 with the 24 before Luka demanded I come and play in the sandpit. Did them shirtless though, which is probably worth the other 75.

Couldn't have been that hard as it didn't make it onto your training log. I guess you are working in sets of 25?

Was thinking I might do some swings tonight as its sunny. Good excuse to take a video, then everyone can tell me I need to keep my back straight and bend me knees less.
