If I ran by feel I would go out at sub 3min pace for the first km and then when I felt crap Id slow right down with the rest of em! lol!
On a flat course you gotta have a goal time and then stick to that pace NO MATTER WHAT. No matter if you feel like going faster at the start or slower at the end. Its all about pacing. Look at the negative splits of world records etc.
I ran a 17:00 for 5k USATF certified course in Brooklyn last Wednesday. I started about 50th and finished 7th overall.
