thanks guys! was just pretty happy i didn't bomb with that terrible deadlifting.

joel sorry to hear that you couldn't compete at the weightlifting comp, was looking forward to seeing you lift. is there another one coming up?

Lordmuppet wrote:I'm curious why are you competing equipped? To be clear I am just curious, I'm not a RAW evangelist. I plan to compete RAW but simply because it is cheaper.

the main reason is when i started powerlifting i bought a second hand squat suit that was several sizes too small and am only now just fitting into it several years later (that is my 'deadlifting suit' as well).. i'm still interested in lifting mostly raw but i do feel the call of the dark side :)

30/6 (thurs)

back to it.. i'm competing bench only at nationals in a month (an earlier raw total qualified me for nationals three lift but the raw B grade is ridiculously lower than the equipped B grade so i figure my qualifying total doesn't make me strong enough to be the weakest guy there), so training a short bench cycle and a longer squat and deadlift cycle looking at a september comp..

cg bench.. 6x6 @ 100kg
deadlift.. 3x10 @ 120kg
lying twists.. 3x10 @ bw
pullups.. 3x10 @ bw
haven't really been sleeping so skipped out on ghr and situps

4/7 (mon)
bench.. 6x3 @ 142.5kg
two board paused bench.. 3x5 @ 135kg
db incline press.. 3x6 @ 32.5kg

11/7 (mon)

as well as skipping out on last monday's squat and deadlifting, completely missed out on any training at all last thursday. not really sleeping at the moment and eating has gone to crap.

bench.. 6x3 @ 145kg.. last rep missed, not so good.

then shirted up for a single at 145kg (easy touch), 2x170kg (paused), 2x180kg (two block), 2x190kg (two block), 1x200kg (two block), 2 x f @ 200kg (two block).. so first time handling 200 and it felt like 200 should (ie more than 190).. hopefully beating down some neural pathways

incline db bench.. 3x6 @ 35kg

db curls.. 3x6 @ 22.5kg

deadlift.. 3x8 @ 75kg

too wrecked to squat, gym was closing anyway

14/7 (thurs)

cg bench.. 6x6 @ 110kg
shirted bench.. can't remember the numbers, didn't go so well

18/7 (mon)

bench.. 5x3 @ 150kg (last rep of set 5 a fail half way up), then last set 3x147.5kg.. this started out weak, i was almost going to drop down to 145 after the first set with the last rep being incredibly slow, the second set was just as bad but after that got focussed and started smashing them out. a lot of this game is all in the head. this was last of the 6x3s, i thought there was another week but only 2x2s now before nationals.

shirted bench.. 1x170kg paused, 1x180kg paused

shirted bench off three block.. 3x200kg, 2x202.5kg, 3x202.5kg.. really enjoying throwing these weights around.

db overhead incline press.. 3x6 @ 35kg

db curl.. 3x6 @ 25kg

that's some super-impressive PL numbers. you're raw benching for reps more than my 1RM squat! insanity! and a belated "great Job" on the comp.

thanks hal!

21/7 (thurs)
cg bench.. 5x6 @ 115kg (last rep of set five failed), 3x110kg.. should have made all six sets

25/7 (mon)
shirted bench.. 1x160kg, 2x170kg paused, then two paused singles at 185kg (both comp legal). bench nationals on the weekend. plan is to open on 180, follow up with 185, and if i make both of them finish up with a punch at 190.

been away for a while! ended up going all right at nationals with a 190kg bench. happy with that. getting towards the end of a cycle now, competing in sydney in a few weeks (3 lift raw and bench only equipped). about 6kg overweight and have just over two weeks to make weight :s feeling reasonably strong.. these are the most recent sessions, everything is out of order since i'm playing catchup on some missed sessions.

10/11 (thurs)
squat.. 3x5 @ 152.5kg
bench.. 3x5 @ 132.5kg
+ assistance

14/11 (mon)
bench.. 3x5 @ 136.5kg
deadlift.. 6x3 @ 200kg
+ assistance

17/11 (thurs)
did last monday's squatting today and will do today's deadlifting tomorrow.
squat.. 3x5 @ 160kg.. felt really easy
+ assistance

18/11 (fri)
deadlift.. 6x3 @ 205kg or so the plan goes...
+ assistance

made the friday deadlifts comfortably, probably a bit more in the tank.

20/11 (sunday)
good times training with floey from german vegan strength. squatting a day early, stupidly! but it was an MVS session and you can't not lift..
squat.. 3x5 @ 165kg with the very last rep a fail and one or two questionable reps in there as well

21/11 (mon)
home training... ridiculously weak and sore joints from the massive volume of the last week :s
bench.. 3x4 @ 140kg.. finished up with 5x125kg punishment set

we still have irregular and well spaced training sessions, mostly the usual suspects :) here is group pic from the last session
Image

28/11 (mon)
bench.. shirted up for singles at 140kg and 160kg, then was supposed to do four paused singles at 180kg but the first was so easy i made the second single a double and the third single a double at 182.5kg
squat.. supposed to do 2x2 @ 175kg but the first set was comfortable so upped the second set to 180kg, tough but got it ok
bench is officially stronger than squat, ha!
+ light deads

lifting in two comps on the weekend, equipped bench on saturday (plan is 182.5kg, 192.5kg, 200kg) and raw three lift on sunday (plan is squat: 182.5kg, 192.5kg, 200kg; bench 150kg, 155kg, 160kg; deadlift, 222.5kg, 232.5kg, 240kg)

hey mate, was awesome to meet you. hope you enjoyed sydney?

3/12 (sat)
matti tikka equipped bench comp
opened with an easy 182.5kg, then a second lift PB of 192.5kg.. decided to load up for 200kg for the third lift but it was never there. got it to about two thirds then stalled. i probably had an easy 195kg in me and a small shot at 197.5. ended up as overall bench winner because EVERY other lifter bombed.

4/12 (sat)
matti tikka raw powerlifting comp
the gym this was held at was new and terrible because the air conditioning wasn't working yet, so basically the warm up room was doubling as a sauna, pretty sure i weighed less after the comp than before. pretty funny to see a room full of massive units close to fainting.

squat.. missed 182.5kg opener on depth which should have been super easy, so confidence shook. don't think i've ever been called on depth before. came back and nailed it for second attempt then finished up with 192.5kg which was originally supposed to be the second lift.

bench.. easy 150kg opener, 155kg second lift and then by this stage the heat had destroyed me and the third attempt 157.5kg i barely had enough strength to lower the bar.. was pretty close to fainting so downed a few power aids and that seemed to give me the energy to get through deads..

deadlift.. easy 222.5kg opener then missed 230kg due to a bad set up, came back and smashed it for the final lift. overall 577.5kg not a great result, but was ok considering the conditions, it could have been more terrible. finished second of five lifters in the 120s (weighed in at 111.6).

12/12 (mon)
bench.. first time back in the gym post comp, went for my usual stupid post comp bench pb attempt and loaded up 162.5kg touch and go and surprisingly got it pretty easily, first PB in a long while! missed 165kg and finished up with 3x10 @ 115kg

db bench.. 3x8 @ 45kg
db curl.. 3x10 @ 20kg
ring tricep extensions.. 3x10 @ bw
squat.. 3x6 @ 140kg
