Sounds shocking. There was some nutter on an Island just outside the capital shooting kids as well, details still slowly emerging.

Absolutely horrific, 84 dead at the camp so far and still searching for bodies....... :(

I so bloody hate guns!

Condolences to all the families of the dead, and those kids that saw their friends being massacred, and get well thoughts to the injured.

84! t'was 30 last I heard!

Really hope this isn't going to allow the Far-Right to shoe-horn themselves into power up there.

edit: that last comment was on the basis that last night the BBC were suggesting a militant Islamist cell were behind the attacks. It now looks like some hard right guy did it all along. Crazy and quite disgusting...

At least 91 now. I'm guessing the ultra-right wont get much sympathy seeing that's where the shooter(ers?) were coming from from what's been reported. But I don't think there really is anyone to put the blame on but a fucked up guy.

Anybody here know much about Norwegian politics? No death penalty, right? So just life in prison?

They're a fairly civilised country so yeah, I guess.

From the sound of things this is an attack on the Labour party more than anything else; not really seen anyone get that excited by politics in Europe of late, dark days.

The media (that i've listened to anyway) seem to be concentrating on his Christian Fundamentalism more now.

Is this another case of the brainwashing powers of extreme religion?

I would be so tempted to let him swop places with an innocent animal in a vivisection lab,- or else I cannot see that his existance serves any purpose, and the death penalty is far too easy a way out for him. I expect a lot on this board will disagree with me as to the harshness of my views, but like most people I still cant get my head around what he's done.

Truly horrifc. The way he gathered them before attacking is just evil. The worst thing out of all of this is that the guy doesn't appear to be insane. He is as extreme as it gets but he is cooperating with police and even acknowledges that what he did was "gruesome". But when does extremism become insanity? His manifesto has nothing but hatred towards ethnic minorities and immigrants within Europe, with hate towards Muslims inparticular.

One thing I found odd was when the bbc news reader said "This has all the hallmarks of an al-quida attack". I was thinking surely a bomb blowing up could be the hallmark of any terrorist group. Bombs are used by all terrorists! Expect a bit more professionalism from the bbc news.

It's sad that there were news helicopters hovering above the island long before police helicopters. If only they got to him sooner, he actually ran out of ammunition....

I really cant see how it could take the police an hour and a half-I thought all Nato countries had plans in place for attacks of terrorism, so should be geared up for amy major incident. Those poor kids must have wondered if anyone was ever going to come to their help :(

Apparently max sentence he could get is 21 years, so could be released in his 50s - or MUST be released!

I think this will cause problems for the far right not encourage people to support it. Totally horrific!!

There is a good news article about the 21 year limit. There are also possible ways to add 5 more years (every 5 years) but how likely is that to stick? Maybe this will lead to longer term limits in Norway....
