2/6 (thurs)

small army of ASADA drug testers at the club tonight, was swooped on and pissing into a beaker within five minutes of arriving. fun. i'm pretty sure they thought i was someone else.

weighed in at 107.5kg which is 1.5kg down from same time last week, on target.

lying twists.. 2x10 @ bw
deadlift.. 3x5 @ 195kg, starting to get tougher, no hitching at least
cg bench.. 3x5 @ 80kg
squat.. 3x5 @ 80kg (first rep snatched and after final rep of each set 5 overhead push presses before lowering)
situps.. 2x10 with 5kg plate
glute ham raises.. 2x10 @ setting 7:1

Let me know if the Dr passes or not (if he got picked). I've been sceptical since day one.

i don't think he was tested, they were mostly going for guys lifting in nats. in other news mile high guy is feeling your absence, this is verbatim.. 'where is andy i miss him. can i have his phone number?' also his bench is down because he got a 'pec injury during sex'.

9/6 (thurs)

weighed in at 105.75kg.. slowly disappearing

lying twists.. 2x10 @ bw
deadlift.. 2x5 @ 201kg.. completely fucked my back on the last rep so dropped the weight to 180kg for the final set.. then because it didn't feel like enough i geared up to try out some suited deadlifts (aka reversed squat suit), felt completely alien and i'm not sure i will be doing it again especially since i'm relatively strong off the floor anyway. did an easy 190kg and 220kg but it was this strange two part lift that was a definite hitch..
cg bench.. 3x5 @ 80kg
mock snatch + squat + behind the neck strict press.. 5x60kg
squat (first reps cleaned and pressed).. 3x5 @ 85kg
incline situps.. 2x10 with 5kg plate
glute ham raises.. 2x10 @ setting 7:1

final fives on monday.. bench should go well, squats will be a disaster.

If I were interested in exchanging numbers I would have done so the day he suggested that we "swap girls". I'm sure there was a good story to that injury, the keyword being STORY.

so of course bench was a disaster and squats went well

14/6 (mon)
bench.. 3x5 @ 139kg missed the very last rep. pretty disappointed but one of my training partners pointed out that since my best fives is 142.5kg at 20kgs heavier this actually is a pretty decent increase in strength
db bench.. 2x10 @ 27.5kg
db curl.. 2x10 @ 17.5kg
db tricep extension.. 2x10 @ 17.5kg
deadllift.. 3x5 @ 105kg.. tested out the back and the pain wasn't too great so decided to go ahead with squats.. the great thing about having an injured back is that it forces you to really pay attention to proper form
squat.. 3x5 @ 160kg.. a thousand times better and easier than last week, worked out i'd somehow gotten into the bad habit of squatting with a way too narrow stance.. widened out a bit and knees out saw this knocked out pretty well though they did start to get tough towards the end.. because of the wider stance i was able to keep my back much more upright and didn't really aggravate the injury too much at all.

16/6 (thurs)

deadlift.. 2x2 @ 210kg suited.. kept it low as i'm still trying to master the suit, will probably open on 220kg.
bench.. shirted singles at 160kg, 170kg, 175kg, 180kg (couldn't quite lock out), then a couple more at 172.5kg. weak, though the shirt is quite loose.. touching at 160kg wasn't difficult so it's likely the small shirt is now too big
squat.. 3x5 @ 85kg
pullups.. 2x10 @ bw
glute ham raises.. 2x10 @ setting 7:3

20/6 (mon)

deadlift.. 3x5 @ 105kg

squat.. 2x2 @ 190kg wraps and first time in a squat suit, weight wasn't difficult, almost felt like getting raised up in a hydraulic chair, but i only probably made good depth on the very last rep.. probably open on 195kg and hopefully finish around 215kg

bench.. 3x2 @ 170kg (shirted, paused).. missed the last rep of the second set so did another double to work on form, needed to touch much lower on my chest, last set went up easy.

need to get 215kg squat, 180kg bench and 235kg dead to get the 630kg total required to qualify for nationals in a month. do or die.

26/6 (sun)

first ever equipped comp, squats and bench went well followed by a deadlift disaster.. due to a ridiculously busy week i had kind of forgotten about the comp and been eating insane amounts, so was expecting to lift as a 120kg (no way i am getting in a sauna ever again), but after draining the lizard managed to somehow sneak in at 104.95kg.

squat.. opened on 195kg followed up by 205kg and 215kg.. so used to feeling wrecked after squats but all this in the suit didn't even feel like warmup.. couldn't tell if i was making depth but apparently the last lift was well deep.

bench.. opened on 172.5kg and it was easy so upped the second to 180kg and finished up on 182.5kg for my first 400lb plus bench in the 105 division. only 2.5kg off my best comp lift as a 125 so feel like starting to get some strength back.

Image

deadlift.. everything fell apart.. opened ok on 215kg but then hitched twice on 225kg, same old story strong off the floor and then everything goes to hell, and the deadlift suit helped collapse my chest at the start making everything worse. gonna work on rack pulls to get stronger in lockout plus either learn to lift in the suit properly or else just deadlift raw from now on.

next comp is nationals in a month.. looking forward to this a lot as there's going to be some huge monsters coming over including brad gillingham and tony harris

Congratulations on the awesome lifts Noah! Massive!!
Bad luck with the deadlifts but I guess going in equipped for the first time and at a lighter bodyweight it still a great accomplishment

sorry about the deadlift :( but otherwise seems good!

I'm curious why are you competing equipped? To be clear I am just curious, I'm not a RAW evangelist. I plan to compete RAW but simply because it is cheaper.

I'm not part of the 'we should all squat naked' brigade

awesome comp performance mate!

deadlift i think looked (from what i saw when training with you) just a bar path/pulling style issue rather than strength. Bad habit hard to get rid of :D

onwards!
