IT Band Syndrome

Postby powerlifer » Wed Jun 15, 2011 9:23 pm

OK my arch nemesis IT Band Syndrome, what do you guys do to beat this? Ive had this for years and it really effects my side kicks in martial arts.

Ive tried stretching, physio, the roller with no luck. Squats and deadlifts can cause major problems with tightening it up fast.

Just want this cured once and for all. Im starting to think its my lower back that causes it. When i stand cutting my vegetables at times my lower back will tighten and if i stand straight i can feel it in my knees.

Any help is appreciated.

hey mine comes and goes

really dont know why either lol!

as in, what is different in my training now compared to just few months ago... maybe less strongman events? As in moving with heavy weights.

Do you run etc?

i only do hamstring stretches at the moment on a regular basis, it band is so hard to stretch anyway and i seem to forget to ever get myself these rollers and balls...

I also get a VERY painful it band massage from time to time which releases them on the spot. Its very violent though and sometimes i think i rather take the problems than the cure lol!

Haha yeah the roller is sore enough, but thats a good point i must look into to see if there is any of that myofascial release massage around here. I will try anything at this stage as it really stops me from working out. Like i say though my lower back tightens very quickly upon deadlifts, squats and even bent over rows so im unsure if that is contributing.

I played alot of football in the past which probably brought it on. These days i run now and again but nothing major i tend to use boxing/muay thai as my main form of cardio.

Hamstrings another pain lol my left leg seems unable to stretch hamstring these days, any time i do it rips the muscle almost like theres a knot in it.

Going to def look into them massages again cheers for that.

I never really had any major issues, so cant give any solid advice.
However when I first started foam rolling it was complete agony on the ITB, but now it is no where near as painful.
So using my logic, foam roller makes it better, just need to work through the pain. A little HTFU maybe?

I will need to stick to the foam roller this time and give it a proper go for a few months and see how it goes.

HTFU?

haha yeah i thought that might have been it. If the pain you were referring to is the roller or massage i have no problem with that, i actually enjoy it in a crazy sort of way.

If the pain was in regards to the IT band syndrome then not really a case of hardening up as it completely stops me from training in lower body exercises aswell as martial arts.
