Brutal. Those batons must hurt like hell. The look of contempt on their faces and the obvious enjoyment they got out of assaulting their fellow countrymen is just nauseating. Franco would be proud.

Do the police/oppressors not realise? If you attack and provoke peaceful demonstrators, you only strengthen their resolve.

...and provide justification for things to get even nastier. It starts with batons, then people start chucking rocks, then the water cannon comes out and before you know it there's blood in the streets. History will be the only thing that cares whose blood it is, but it all starts with batons...

that's just crazy. i just see no provocation at all from the protesters to warrant that kind of treatment. shameful.

Yep. Grim. Seeing as the rest of Europe is looking at Spain and Greece (and Ireland I guess) to see whether there's any future in the Euro and whether a bailout is worth it they'll be more of this I reckon; to show that the government is in control. Think the hot-heads will be out pretty soonish...
