Sandbag training

Postby spanna » Sun Feb 27, 2011 1:48 am

Benzilla bought me a sandbag for my birthday ( best present ever!)

Does anyone use a good training routine with a sandbag that they can share?

what ever it is, they have to include hulme getups? :D

taken into account that sandbags are unbalanced awkward ever changing in balance points and grips, maybe the training should be the same too - hit it hard with all kinds of movements, and find your way around with it without specific routine to start with - thats what i would do :D

just some ideas would be:

- shouldering the bag from floor
- slam it on the floor (padded surface!)
- shoulder & overhead press/push press
- hold it in front of you and do front squats with it
- hug it or shoulder it and "bear walk" with it
- overhead walks, holding the bag overhead and walking around, even running
- various throws, for distance, from chest, tossing the bag lying on your bag and catching it
- one hand deadlifts for grip strength

.... :D

- some kind of burpees
- loading it onto something
- holding it then doing steps onto something or lunges

Thanks guys!! I feel the anticipation building... unfortunately benzilla wont let me use it yet as we are trying to sell our place. Sand through the carpet is not the best selling point!!

First sandbag training session today! I used a routine created by bodyrock.tv a site that I follow most days. She uses sandbags occasionally and I thought this routine looked achievable.LOVED IT!

Looks great! Keep us posted. I've been thinking about one for my clients. Effective is important, but sandbag training would help set me apart from other trainers.

just did another short intense workout, incorporating sandbag exercise! I have no idea what the weight of my sandbag is though as I have no scales. contents of sandbag to date = 2 bottles wine wrapped in towels, 2kg bag of rice and 830g tinned peaches!
bodyrock.tv has some great sandbag exercises like this one -
