Nuts (pistachios have the best amino acid profile), seeds (especially hemp, pumpkin and sunflower), tofu, tempeh, seitan, lupini beans, edamame, vegan meat and milk products. Homemade hemp milk is fantastic.

Also, if you're worried about overloading on soy, it's simple to make tofu out of hemp or pumpkin seeds -

You can even make your own soy free tempeh if you're really hardcore about varying your protein sources.

Tofu or tempeh scrambles/stir fries are easy and delicious low carb/high protein meals. You can also make tofu omelettes (this recipe is delicious but there are some carbs in the chickpea flour - http://www.wellsphere.com/vegetarian-ar ... tar/746521) or a vegan quiche (minus the crust if you're really watching carbs) - http://www.savvyvegetarian.com/vegetari ... quiche.php

sweeeeet thanks for all the info!

I've been writing off nuts and seeds as fat sources for so long, I guess I forgot they are also great sources of protein. I am in love with pumpkin right now, tis the season for some pumpkin seeds! :)

That is crazy that I could make my own tofu! but first I want to try to develop a taste for it (cross your fingers for me)

If you want to find good uses for tofu and tempeh, pick up some of isa chandra moskowitz's cookbooks. Every vegan should have Veganomicon. Vegan with a Vengeance and Vegan Brunch are great too.

Also, chia and/or ground flax seeds would be good additions to your diet too. They're high in protein and and omega-3 fatty acids. Chia seed puddings are often recommended for weight loss actually.

According to the table on the packaging for ground flaxseed (also called linseed) that I have in the fridge, one heaped tablespoon (9 grams) contains 2.9g of protein and 0.2g carbohydrate. It's also a good source of omega 3. It can be sprinkled on breakfast cereal, added to smoothies, added to baking or sprinkled on meals when they are served up.

You can also eat the carbs you desire while taking a konjac fiber supplement. It's natural and prevents most of the carbs from entering your system. There are some good human studies which show how effective propolmannan is for those who are carb sensitive.

Just a thought.
