Re: Back on 2 feet for the winter....

Postby skoptic » Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:56 am

So these last 6 - 8 weeks have been my longest "fallout' from a race. I've enjoyed taking it easy, doing anything at the weekends and managed to fit in some swims and runs, but nothing like normal, and only a few sessions a week for the last month.

Like normal - what I need are events in the diary - mostly because that's what I like, but also because it'll make my training focused and regular. So - I've taken over someone's entry for a 1/2 marathon on Nov 7th .... and that should spur me on :-) I haven't got as many weeks as I would like, so it'll just be a nice dip into the racing world rather than any time focus. I'm planning to get my speedwork and tempo runs back up to scratch, because there wasn't much of that going on for the DIM!

I'm also planning on training and doing a couple of ultras early next year with some people interested in trying one .... hopefully those long weekend runs will be a bit more sociable than usual.... time to up the miles again :-)

Heh .. not that bad .. but I clearly need to stretch more ... and my 800m time was pretty groggy! Still like they say, to run faster .... you have to run faster... :-)

taking it a bit easy because I can feel a bit of shin splints coming on.. need to stretch and up mileage sensibly

Mon - rest
Tue - 6 miles speedwork - km reps, 20 second rest, then 200m sprint (then a 2min rest) Was almost puking by the end, tough session.
Wed - 4m recovery ... still feeling it in the top of shins, need to stretch those calves more.
Thur - 8.5 miles - nice steady club run, started a bit late though so I missed swimming

been building up the weights as well - but little by little, I'll start in earnest next week :-)

Ahhhh. 3 months since my last post :-) -- that's hibernation in action that is!

I've just moved and I'm (just) starting to get back into it - enjoying some new countryside to run around (hilly here though!). It looks like it's going to be a slow process getting back where I was, I'm very unfit!

LOL . cheers Mr C. - hope all is good on the other side of the planet (and with new family member!)

Just got very muddy with a lovely lunch time 5 miler :-) Running is a lot easier this week - caramelised onion houmous soothes all the pain away...

Re: Slowly, slowly catchy monkey....

Postby skoptic » Sun May 01, 2011 9:30 pm

My god ... I'm being pretty good at not updating this :-) ..... Hellooooo peoples....

I'm happy to say it because I've been busy rather than not running, or not being vegan!! So I've been getting regular miles in - but not as long as usual. Mostly 6 milers - but at least I'm getting out 5 or 6 times a week and the fitness is coming back. The weather is brilliant at the moment .. and my new house has so many paths and trails around that I never need to do the same route - I can just weave about and find new areas. :-)

It's my 'new May resolution' to get involved with the forum again ... I'll be making the time :-)

Sounds good - especially the bit about logging more regular. At least you're getting some regular mileage in which is of course the bottom line.

I would like to caution you agains monkey capture though.
