Vega (I know, I know...)

Postby Justin Miller » Tue Jul 13, 2010 3:55 am

...it's probably already been brought up. But please, if you have a moment, I'd like some input. Is it a protein mix? A nutrient supplement? Both? I've heard about it from one or two sources, but I thought this would be a great place to find out about it, since we're all into the sweating business. I don't want to drop nearly forty bucks a jar for this stuff if it's not worth it.

Its a combination of both mate it contains 25g of protein per serving from various alkaline forming sources such as hemp, flax, yellow pea, brown rice, chlorella etc.

But it also high quality carbs, essential fatty acids, fibre vitamins, minerals, probiotics, digestive enzymes, mixed berry complex (ORAC 800 blend) and a serving of macasure.

Its one of my favorite supplements, good as a meal replacement or you can half the dose and just use it as a supplement. As you can see i also sell it at the link in my sig.

It's the best stuff ever, gives me energy for my workouts and has essentially cured my gut/intestinal issues. Whole Foods Optimizer is what I use, also have the Sports Optimizer.

I am a Vega fangirl. :D

That's encouraging-my wife has similar issues, maybe if she gives it a shot it'll help out.

I bought the chocolate one, but now I'm thinking berry was probably a better idea since you can put it in juice and smoothies.

Here's what I do:

2 scoop chocolate Vega
1 banana
1 cup light chocolate soy milk
ice

Throw it all in a blender, and it's awesome--and that's my breakfast after my morning workouts!

Welcome!

I also like unsweetened vanilla almond milk with it. :)

I did it with chocolate Rice Dream, for starters. I couldn't find unsweetened vanilla almond milk. It's not bad with something chocolatey, a banana, and some ice on a hot day, but I think that once I'm done, I'm definitely getting the plain or the berry flavor, so I can mix it with fruit, etc.

In the meantime, I'm starting a blog of my own: http://365v.wordpress.com/

It's going to be boring until September, which although I'll be eating vegan food right up to it, I won't be keeping track of myself until then.

Okay, so I tried making Vega with the recommended two-scoop serving, and just two measured cups of almond milk. It's amazing, tastes a lot like instant breakfast, but way better for you.

Vega is tasty, provides great nutrients and is an incredible supplement.... and gives me immense gas.

It's an issue a lot of Vega users have brought up to Sequel. We believe it is inulin that is causing some of us INTENSE discomfort. It's a real bummer to be honest. I am switching to Olympian Labs Peak Protein instead, and adding my own tweaks such as chlorella and maca.

The only link we can find is that most people with the issue have IBS, but not all!

Interestingly, Vega has *helped* my digestive probs immensely and when I stop taking it, it shows. A LOT. I don't know what I'd do without it...

That is interesting that people can have completely opposite reactions to it. For me, I would get so much gas I could power the space shuttle.

Which products are giving people gas and which ones aren't? I tried it back when there was only like three flavors and one product. They have a larger selection now. I was recently given a smaple of the whole foods health optimizer and it didn't give me the problems I had in the past. Although one small package might not be enough to tell.

It might have something to do with what you're mixing it with. I don't have any problems with it, personally.

Has anyone tried flavors other than chocolate? Input?

I've used vanilla chai and chocolate, and usually blend with 1-2 bananas and a cup of unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk and ice in a blender.

I would get gas if I used the recommended 2 scoops. Taking just 1 gives me no problem at all. Maybe try that?
