...which kettlebell next?

Postby britdoc » Fri Aug 06, 2010 12:34 pm

Hey guys,

I bought a kettlebell a couple of years ago, and absolutely love it - 24kg, and very comfortable with most basic and some of the advanced movements. I think that it is time to move up - I can do about 15 snatches and about 12-15 presses with it, as well as ~40 squats and as many if not more swings (I tend to get more out of breath than lacking in strength with these moves.)

Which weight would you recommend next? I was thinking a 70 pounder, but am considering an 80...do you think that would be too much of a leap?

I reckon you should just get another 24kg bell so you can do bilateral exercises, or maybe invest in an adjustable KB like this one.

Can you do a bottoms up clean and presses, turkish get up, pistols and sots presses with your 24kg? These are great ways to extend the usefulness of a lighter KB.

I'd say get a 32kg. If you need something new. I have a 24kg myself and I enjoy it a lot.

Depends on how you want to use it. It can be used for cardio and/or strength. What exercises do you do with it JP?

Nice, thanks - probably will go ahead with the 32kg. And you are right, there are other exercises that I have not mastered yet so it might be wise to stay on the slightly lighter side - will be a while before I master an 80lb pistol!

32kg 'bell is a bigger bell too which makes the centre of balance sit further from your levers which makes moving it a bit harder as well remember. I say go for that one. I've got one and it's hella challenging.

I'd go for the 32 and another 24 if funds allow.

With two 24's I do double swings/db floor press/db rows/db cleans, I'm working up to the double snatch.

With my 32, it's mainlly swings/row/cleans and high pull.

How come no one talks about 28's? I sell all sizes if you're in the UK, including the 28's.

Got my 70 in the mail today. Ho-Ly-Cow. Can barely press it without a little push, even cleans and swings are a bitch - this is going to be fun. Glad I stuck to the 'lighter side' versus an 80 or 88...what the hell was I thinking?

I'd say 32 since it's the standard.

Don't get two 24s, everything you can do with two you can just do with barbells or dumbells anyway.
