Hello folks,
SO glad that this site exists - Just what I need right now!
I am a 36 year old resident doc, working in a busy, huge metropolitan hospital. Originally from the UK, now living in the US, I have been involved with bodybuilding/powerlifting since 12-13 and was consequently an enormous carnivore, I am afraid. Recently however, I became very tired of my lifestyle - drinking massive amounts of caffeine, soda, coffee, just to stay awake - eating at the hospital McDonalds at night, while on call (chicken sandwiches only, but still...) and 'supposedly' eating healthy (lean meats, some fruits, hardly any veggies.)
Anyway, after an ethical and ecological awakening during some investigation into vegetariansim/veganism I discovered that apparently you can keep working out and be one of the former. For the last 2 months I have been essentially vegan, with a 1-2 week transition at the start; I do find it hard when I visit family and they cook for me though. I am fine with declining meat, but feel very awkward declining dishes that probably have dairy in them - particularly at this early stage.
Very impressed at how my energy levels have changed. I have not touched a drop of caffeine/soda in 2 months and feel fantastic. My strength is fine (240lb BP, 300lb squat, 400lb deadlifts, all for reps). We'll see how this goes...
