120 kg a year ago.. I haven't maxed out on front squat since then. Time to have another go.

I've not maxed out since the thread began in 2007 :(

Maybe should squat, front squat, snatch and C&J when I head to the gym. These "race" threads are building up.

Did a little front squatting yesterday. I'm much more comfortable with what I'm trying to do on the back squat though, especially with what I'm doing with my upper body. I'm getting the back tight, pulling down on the bar. Arching hard, filling the belly with air. I move the hips back, then I'm thinking about pushing the knees out.

With the front squat I don't really know what I'm doing. Should I be arching the back, pushing the elbows up, shoulders pushed forward under the bar or pulling them back? What do you do with your shoulder blades?

Like baldy's "squat cues" thread, what are you guys thinking when you front squat?

You've got most of it already - arch your back, drive the elbows up (driving the elbows up keeps the upper back tight), shoulders pushed forwards. I'd also add the obligatory big chest and flex your lats, and sit down and let the knees travel forwards. Sitting down is the most important of all, because as soon as you sit back you'll lose it.

to be honest, all i think at the moment is "SPEED, SPEED, SPEED"

loving how it has made me front squat though, at the moment the sets to about 155 are pretty damn snappy if i say so myself... lets not talk about the sets above that number

just thinking about fronties as an assistance lift, so the speed kind of makes sense if you think about my sport and how fronts help in the actual strongman events (loading, picking stuff up, leg drive on tyre flips, power for cleans, overhead leg drive and what ever else)
