Making tempeh from frozen soybeans

Postby chronyx » Fri Jun 18, 2010 5:39 pm

Can you make tempeh from shop-bought frozen soy beans? Or even the ready to eat ones you can get in a carton from Sainsbury's?

All the online guides mention de-hulling, grinding, etc, etc.

Some of us have jobs!

Obviously not a job that's too demanding to prevent you from trying to make tempeh! :D

Well chucking some frozen beans in a bag with some culture (Abridged version) is still much quicker than grinding, de-hulling, rinsing, etc :D

Well I gave it a go with a carton of soya beans. Hopefully my home-made incubator of a heat pad in a Coolbox will work...:D

Looking forward to seeing the results either way though...as long as it's not stomping round the kitchen tomorrow morning.

Good luck! You can also make tempeh from other beans like black eyed peas - http://books.google.com/books?id=qCMmXA ... &q&f=false

Just stir-fried it, tasted different to the shop bought stuff but OK. Think I shouldn't have mashed the beans so much. Haven't keeled over yet!
