Recurring Whiplash Symptoms

Postby Superflor » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:38 pm

I had a car accident about 3 and a half years ago and had whiplash. I find some exercises trigger the symptoms again but am not 100% sure which ones exactly (I think one where I'm lying on my back and raise my legs up kinda rolling onto my shoulders- for lower abs but not sure if it was this or the combo of that and holding onto the wall bars).

I was at the docs today for women's stuff and asked if there were any exercises I should do/not do with this. Maybe it was a lost in translation from English to Spanish or the doc couldn't be arsed refering me to someone with a clue but she just said, do pilates and swimming. But me, I like my gym.

Anyone here got any info on which exercises in the gym/on machines could help to strengthen the weakened area and which to avoid like the plague?

Have you been to an osteopath? I went for a massges a couple of weeks ago and they said a number of my vertebra were out, my neck had been getting steadily worse over the last couple of years after a whiplash accident and I hadnt had time to fix it, this in turn had caused my trapezius muscle to become really knotted and painful, and my neck to have pretty limited manouverability.

Anyway, the osteopath just clicked my vertebrea back into place (took 5 mins), he reckons it'll just atke a couple more sessions and Ill be fine, another couple of visits to the massage place and Ill be to start running, yay!

Ha!! Funny you should mention this. My hip went bananas after a tennis lesson and so I went to see one who was recommended. I ran through the various things that happen with me and exactly like you say, there was manipullations, crackings and deep muscle massage and I'm great now. Had 3 sessions once a week and am even running on a treadmill and using a bike at the gym which I thought would be a no go forever more!!

Am experimenting with exercises which would usually trigger the whiplash to see what happens and so far so good. Also started attending postural correction exercise classes by the same geezer and those are strengthening me up more. Was thinking today, if only I'd found him 10 years ago I wouldn't have gone through so much pain and even walking with a stick at one point cos of probs relating to scoliosis and hip.

I am recently ..like this week ...coming back from reoccurring neck shoulder , brachial plexus and upper body nerve injuries that go back to my skiing days .
I have been having bi- weekly "Active Release" work or ART which is really working !!! ( knock wood) .
I have had 3 days in a row without huge pain issues :)
It is an advanced and specialized therapy usually performed by a chiropractor
I have experimented with most types of treatment /therapy out there and I am really keen on this- goes very deep.
Good Luck

Your osteo may know about it .
I have seen a lot of straight chiro's and osteo 's and have not felt the same relief as I get from this treatment option.
My chiro (who also happens to be an athlete which always helps ) may throw in a couple of adjustments too.
ACT really attacks that built up scar tissue which has been around( on me at least) for far too long, thus increasing mobility etc.
Here is some info:

again Good Luck

PS. I have had a few to many whiplash and concussion injuries too and this seems to be helping:)
