p90x experiment

Postby thirdeye » Sat May 01, 2010 2:51 pm

So here it goes, decided to start this log for people who are interested about p90x workout and they aren't meat eaters :)
I tried to find peoples experiences about it and all I could find was some american people who'd put themselves on youtube. Impressing results I have to say but I would've needed more basic info how their workout went and so on.

The workout itself is based on muscle confusion and getting "ripped" :) It's this all american YEAH MAN BRING IT style workout and quite funny actually but it's seriously hard work. You do 6 days a week + sunday stretch or rest day.
Those of you who are wondering, no I didn't buy the dvd's but I got them borrowed. And I'm not following the diet plan because I'm not that interested in fat burning. But I'm eating my normal vegetarian diet and added some more protein.
I want to get bigger muscles and hopefully this homeworkout helps..or I have to go to the gym :/

I took a day 1 picture (it's a bit blurry) of myself, which I'm posting after I've completed day 30 and taken picture (I try to take this one properly).

The first month of the program consist of the following:

Weeks 1, 2, and 3
Day 1 – Chest and Back, plus Ab Ripper X
Day 2 – Plyometrics
Day 3 – Shoulders and Arms, Ab Ripper X
Day 4 – Yoga X
Day 5 – Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6 – Kenpo X
Day 7 – Rest or X Stretch

The p90x workout schedule for week 4 is supposed to be a recovery week after hitting it hard six days a week for three weeks.
P90x Workout Plan Week 4

Day 1 – Yoga X
Day 2 – Core Synergistics
Day 3 – Kenpo X
Day 4 – X Stretch
Day 5 – Core Synergistics
Day 6 – Yoga X
Day 7 – Rest or X Stretch

The first week (which was last week) I was working at the construction site at the same time. So that week went a bit over the top. Basically I was doing muscle exercices 10 hours a day. I managed to do 5 days and was a bit sick (ate too old tofu) on the 6th and 7th day so those were just resting for me.

This week I did monday and tuesday and noticed that I still hadn't recovered from last week so wednesday was a rest day. I moved the program so that thursday was actually wednesday's workout and so on. And that worked for me, today I did the day 5 workout and that's the last workout of this week. So I haven't done any of that Kenpo X or X Stretch. But so far the exercices have been very good and hard. Basically each workout is 1 or 1 and a half hour long and I'm always completely exhausted after I'm finished :) in a good way of course.

And a little about the exercices:
Anything else except Yoga X and Plyometrics is weight lifting and doing a hell of a lot push-ups and pull-ups and squatting. Plyometrics is a lot of "jumping" and squatting..it really makes your ass hurt the next day:) To me Yoga X feels like a physical workout. It doesn't have any of that energy, calmness and feeling that ashtanga yoga gives you. It feels like a workout which is made exactly for this program doing some variations of yoga moves. But nonetheless, it is good physical workout.
But not in a million years I would change ashtanga yoga for anything else. I absolutely love it and starting it 3 years ago was the best decision in my life but that's another topic :)

For me, p90x feels like a perfect home workout program. I'm not into hitting gyms and doing a home workout that consist of every muscle group it's a pain in the ass if I don't have that "gym leader" or what ever you call it.
I take this 90 days experiment seriously and if it pays off, I will continue it.

I will update this log maybe once a week or whatever it feels like. Next week is a no-workout-week for me cause I'm getting my tattoo done..if I can only manage the pain :)

So, if anyone has any questions or anything you're welcome to comment!

Me and my GF are 3 days away from 30 days on the program. It's tough, and it's hard to get used to an hour a day of exercise, but my legs are pure muscle now!

I'm a Beachbody coach and this workout is all the rage these days! I'm currently working on Slim in 6 and Hip Hop Abs and once done with Slim in 6 will be doing a Hip Hop Abs/Brazil Butt Lift hybrid, then switching to ChaLEAN Extreme/Insanity. :D

This week has been my tattoo healing week (it didn't get done..damn rib cage hurts like hell)

But today I decided to do some shoulder & arms workout and I noticed some progress already. Went to shop and bought some more weights because bicep curls and few other moves are starting to feel a little bit light.

So next week back to p90x schedule and I got 16 days left till the 30day picture is taken, hope there's some results to be seen even though it's only a month of workout! :D

Nice! Maybe you too could post before and after pics?

:D there's so many workout styles and names that I can't even understand half of those. I've heard about insanity that it's really intense but those Slim in 6 and others I don't have a clue.

It IS insanely intense, lol. I've finished up Slim in 6 and have continued with Hip Hop Abs and just started Brazil Butt Lift today. Holy shit they work you!! I'm VERY glad to be doing this combo cause I really need more core/ab work. And thanks to it have had no lower back pain for the first time in years.

6 days of workout behind and it feels gooooooood. Lots of push-ups, pull-ups, abs and weightlifting behind. Just finished that Kenpo X and it was quite nice. It's either that or the hotness (or both) because I was sweating like hell. I think the workout itself is pretty similar to Body Combat, even though I haven't tried it but from what I've heard. First I was a little suspicious about the kicking and hitting but it was ok. If you do it properly with your whole body it really burns some calories. Actually I felt like I was back in the karate class when I was young

Tomorrow is a stretch day, did that on sunday last week and it felt good. So I've done this program now 3 weeks and it really works. I've noticed progress with my strength, stamina and more flexibility (even though I've done yoga before). Of course this differs from what I've done before because now this is scheduled much better and I'm very determined in trying this.

Just to give you some stats about the progress, here's some yesterday's Legs and Back workout pull-ups compared to week before:

reverse grip chin-ups
wide front pull-ups
close grip overhand pull-ups
switch grip pull-ups (you do 2 front, switch, 2 reverse, switch and so on)

week before:
first round 10 reps reverse, and rest of the set went from 5-8 reps, switch grips were the hardest with 2-4 reps
second round

second round 8 reps reverse and rest of the set goes the same as first round

yesterday:
first round everything else easily 10 reps except switch grips 7 reps
second round 10 reps reverse and rest of the set went from 6-8 reps, switch grips 5 reps (out of juice there)

Hope that's not too unclear to understand  but I was quite amazed how it went.
Tomorrow is a stretch day and next week is a bit different workout, let's see how it goes. Maybe I'll add some extra to it.

I have to say, yesterday's Kenpo X did the job, my sides really feel it now. I think it's because of the hitting with your whole body. When you hit you twist your body. Nice 8)

Stretching is done, helped a lot!

Recovery week is now done, tomorrow is a stretching day and on monday starts phase 2. Slightly different than last month.
I'm having regrets that I didn't take proper flexing pictures on day 1.. I just have normal pose but I guess that will have to do now. Tuesday is picture time and I will take the same normal pose as on day 1 and also take some flexing pictures for the day 60 to compare.

Last week went fine, new program takes it's time to get used to and now it's already second week. Stepped on a nail on sunday so no plyometrics or anything where I have to put my weight on the legs :D Note to self, when you do repairs at your home make sure to get rid of all the waste properly..don't put them in your storage. Hopefully it heals fast. Oh my poor heel..well there's a saying if you have a dumb head your whole body suffers from it.

Next weeks gonna be last of the phase 2, then there's recovery week and the last phase starts.
Nice, I'm actually glad this is over soon so I can do whatever I want and modify it :D I don't want to follow the schedule so slavishly.

Last week went quite badly and there's various reasons why it seemed to be so tiresome or maybe I was just lacking the energy. Tried to do as much as I could..well anyways this week is now all about recovery.

I've gained about 2.5kg weight (morning weight) hopefully muscle! I've been eating as much as I can and there's been a few days when I've eating anything I like..you know, chocolate and stuff :) that not so healthy food.

Last week was my recovery week and basically I didn't follow p90x schedule in anyway. Went for a little trip on wednesday and came back today. I have sore throat and some sort of flue so it's going to be a break from p90x :(

Yup, as I expected in my last pos,t I got sick so last week went entirely in bed. Today I slowly started p90x phase 3 and it went quite well considering the week in fever and flue. Wednesday is going to be day 60 picture time.
