Oh no! I have to talk about myself.

OK I am not 100% Vegan, but am more than curious, especially after reading Brendan Brazier's "Thrive" book. It's even got my partner thinking about cutting back on meat and cooked foods generally. If it were just up to me, well I would be moving inexorably to a Vegan diet, I guess, but I don't much like to travel alone.

I had a sausage roll for lunch, along with a home made vegan pate and tomatoes and a plum and an apple. So I am getting there, slowly but surely. 2 and a half years ago I started going to the gym after years of over eating, over drinking and over smoking (God, I miss the good old days!). The gym was the best thing that happened to me. I know I am not shedding the fat and the pounds (or kilos), but I reckon if it took me 35 years of adult life to become a fat old git, it's going to take some time to put that right. I used to be over 100kg, now I am hovering between 95 and 94. Some progress has been made! My arms don't wobble like they used to when I do my deltoid exercises, so I guess some muscle has replaced some fat.

OK, that's enough. This website looks good, friendly and open-minded, a rare combination on the internet, and I look forward to learning more about my body, exercise and food and nutrition. After all, I need more love and attention now I'm older!

Thanks to all for the welcome. I have never been the most athletic of people. I don't even run for a bus. I refuse to run (only a handful of times when I am very, very late do I break into a canter), after all, there's another one behind soon enough. Equally I don't run in the gym or otherwise. I do however walk briskly and each minute I raise the treadmill by 1 degree. At present I am doing 10 degrees up and down at a minimum of 6.8 km.p.h. and 5 degrees at a minimum of 7.4 km.p.h. On top of that I do mainly dumbbell exercises as well as working on my (formerly gigantic - now only embarrassing) gut. I also love to swim and if the pool is quiet I do 500m after the gym. My best was 1 km after the gym, but I wasn't going to work and it was the middle of the afternoon.

Slow but steady, that's me. So long as I have a firmer body that's enough. Definition is a bonus most other 55 year olds would like, and I am seeing signs of that.

I like what I have seen of this forum, and while I may not contribute much to it, I knew I had to be an official member.

Also my fitness regime is rubbing off on my partner, who is now briskly walking a minimum of 20 minutes every day and there have been mention of exercises. If we two old farts can start, there's no reason why younger farts can't either.

Welcome aboard QueerMarc. I've been so busy reading all the old material here, I've yet to contribute since I joined a couple of months ago....
