I am going (to attempt) to lift in the Anglian Open, Colchester, in early May. Entered into the 82.5kg, but have to seriously cut back on the eating or else I might go over.

Cutting back on eating sounds boring, go in the higher category :( .

to be honest it´s all my fault because of binge drinking too often I even went below 80 Kg in the bench press before I "cleansed" and started working out like i used to using WSB and 1 month into the programm I gained 5-10 kg on top of my performance.
at least that seems solid

my next comp is 105kg category strongman comp on may 31st.

Its a peculiar one because it is open to all those who didnt qualify to the national finals, which means two things, the absolute beasts are not there, and we will all be on more or less equal level. Anything can happen!

EVENT 1 MEDLEY HEAD TO HEAD

110kg farmers 40m 1 turn

sled (weight to be tested)20m

EVENT 2 O/H MEDLEY

giant dumbell 50kg
sleeper log 95kg (railway sleeper with a handle)
axog 90kg (like an axle but log bit in the middle)
log 1 106kg
log 2 116kg

EVENT 3 VEHICLE PULL

with harness possibly head to head vehicle TBC

EVENT 4 LOADING RACE HEAD TO HEAD

3/4 objects to be carried 10m and loaded onto 4'' wall

likely to be 80kg stone 100kg sandbag beer barrell lorry wheel

EVENT 5 DEADLIFT FRAME HEAD TO HEAD

230kg deadlift for reps

-----------

i will train towards this like a BASTARD!!!

Except for you!
Sounds like a competition you can own, how many reps are you planning on the deadlift, should be easy!

Is there any practical difference compared to lifting a log?

Anyways, looks like you are bound to do well in this comp :) .

yeah its deceptive, the handles are quite low on that, lower than plate height, so i dont know. All i know i should be a bit better with handles on the side than normal barbell - we shall see how the training goes :D

But that comp is a weird one, for the first time i have absolutely no idea where i might place, 3rd or 10th - anyones guess!

at least bound to look good :D

axlog wont have the parallel handles, but just one axle, the cleaning will be a bastard, and it will be awkward to press. I think i will do badly on the overhead event to be honest :D

Resurrecting this to ask a question; I'm kinda interested in doing a powerlifting comp somewhere in the Midlands sometime next summer, is there anything I need to do to prepare (other than training I mean!) Do I need to join any feds, register with any organisations etc?

I'm keeping an eye on SBB, but ATM they're only listing this years comps.

What do you reckon dudes?

stoaty: I joined GBPF which seem ok. Not a big focus on equipment which is good, and they have comps all over the place. Nationals are being held in Northampton, last year they were in Birmingham. Membership I think was £40. Check this out.

I don't know of any other feds in the UK for powerlifting, I am sure there are others though.

As for local area competitions, do you know of any powerlifting clubs or gyms that do powerlifting in your area? You might be able to get some info there.

the bdfpa is the other tested fed and they do plenty of raw lifting, maybe more than gbpf.

there will definitely be comps in midlands area for sure. Just check this years dates and they will be roughly around the same dates every year anyway, so you can roughly plan it.
