Hair Dye

Postby downhillingdemon » Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:27 pm

I'm so bored with my now rather mouseybrown locks so I'm gonna dye them I thinks :D

Is there any vegan brands easily available on the high street?

If not, has anyone used these

If I risk peroxide, how likely is it that my hair will fall out??

You'll want to bleach your hair first to get anything out of that type of dye. I doubt your hair will fall out, but it but it might rip the fuck out of your scalp and leave it very itchy indeed. Do what the packet says; mix up a little bit of the concoction and apply it to an inconspicuous part of your head first to see if you do get a reaction.

On another note, are there any definitely vegan hair bleaches out there?

Some Holland and Barrett branches carry Naturtint, which is like the conventional range of hair dyes you get in Boots etc.

http://www.naturesdream.co.uk/naturtint/phc.php

The only thing with these is I found my hair felt quite rough and matted after washing and it needed gallons of conditioner every day.

A similar range is by Herbatint, which you might find in independent health food shops.

For more funky colours you might try Stargazer - I have seen the make up in New Look, not sure about the hair dyes though.

Online, Daniel Field colours are available at Honesty Cosmetics. Again these are the more conventional colours.

Also on your Bee unique website is La Riche hair dye, which has funky colours.

I don't think there are any vegan hair bleaches stoaty, I have tried to find them before. I would love to get some highlights done in a salon, but have never been successful in finding one that uses vegan peroxide. :(

Hi all,

just been looking into this recently- as others have mentioned, Daniel Field colours are vegan but be aware that there are two companies named Daniel Field- the vegan ones are available at

http://www.danielfieldmailorder.co.uk/

I wanted to get a semi-done in a salon and did a bit of research. I emailed Aveda to ask if their ccolourants are suitable for vegans, they emailed me back:

...''With the exception of the Aveda products listed below, all remaining Aveda products contain no animal derived ingredients. We are happy to provide the ingredient listings for any Aveda product you are interested in using for your review. Please contact us with the specific names of any Aveda products you are interested in.

Superdrug label everything if it's vegan now.

Thanks for the info everyone :)

I've been far too lazy to sort anything out as of yet, but it's great to know there are so many options available.
