May I come visit you?

Postby loveliberate » Tue Sep 29, 2009 2:50 am

Hello!

Travel is something that is constantly on my mind and you will often find me reading, doing online research or simply daydreaming about somewhere that I'd like to visit. Over the years I've traveled in a variety of ways and to places throughout the United States of America (to paraphrase Boots Riley: "I was born here but I'm a foriegner") as well as fairly short jaunts north into Canada (SW BC) and south into Mexico (mostly Sonora). These days the time, money and my general ablity to fit travel into my life tends to be quite limited so I'm putting more thought into why I travel and what makes the experience the most rewarding for me.

One conclusion that I've reached is that my travel experience is greatly enhanced by connecting with friendly local folks who are passionate about where they live and want to share it with travelers like me.

This, my dear reader, is where I hope that you will come in to the picture! :)

I would love to hear from any of you who think that where you are is a wonderful place to be and are up to show me around if I ever make it there! Or maybe you do not like where you are so much but you'd still love to have another vegan stop by for a visit? If either of those descriptions apply to you, or even perhaps if they do not, please write up as short or long of a post as you'd like and tell me why you think I would be missing it out if my path did not cross with yours one day! :D

ps. I have purposely omitted any reference to what I tend to look for in the places I travel to in the hopes that as many people as possible will respond to this. While I certainly have my preferences, I also remain open to new and different experiences and possibilities than those I would most likely choose on my own! :)

You're welcome to swing by my place if you like wide open spaces and hills, old Victorian buildings, and fancy checking out a pub with an all-vegan menu.

I'm half an hour by train from Manchester, so if you end up going there you could combine it.

I have a spare room in my apartment, welcome to anyone with enough notice in advance. But it's in east London.

Thanks Fox - that sounds great to me! :D Any chance you have some photos and/or weblinks to more info about your area that I can peruse?

Good to know Talyn! :D Is there something wrong with East London?

Sorry I didn't really talk it up did I. I've only been here a couple of months and at my current location (Waltham Forest), for about 3 weeks. Since I moved, I've been treated to things atypical of East London (eg Trees, reliable tube, considerate people), and I quite like it here. Plus it's about 20 minutes from my door and I'm standing on Oxford Street.

We have room, if you ever want to crash here. We have two human children, and two friendly cat adults, besides my wife and I living in this house.
"The worker has the right to leave his boss, but can she do it? And if she does quit him, is it in order to lead a free life; where she will have no master but herself? No, she leaves to sell herself to another employer. She's driven by the same hunger. Thus the worker's liberty is only a theoretical freedom, lacking any means of realization; an utter falsehood."

Yes! I live in a share house with 4 others but it is great fun - we are all good friends and two of us are vegans and 2 are vegetarians so there's hardly any meat in the house. We have a cat, a piano and millions of different video game consoles. And heaps of different board games that we sometimes crack out with the neighbours on a Sunday afternoon (I know I know, we're a bunch of nerds). We know most of the other people on our street. Plus we live minutes from the CBD. So drop me a line if you ever come to Brisbane :D

Back to the top! :D

While I would love to hear from folks worldwide, here's where I am most likely to travel:
- For the next few months the Left Coast of N. America: Oregon & Washington for sure, California & British Columbia are probable.
-Off the coast - Colorado, New Mexico, Alberta, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, North Carolina are & Vermont all high on my list!
- Jumping overseas: I would love to do a trip to Europe & am hoping that I can pull one together in time for VFW Tuscany 2012! If I do make it over, I hope to visit: Stockholm & Uppsala in Sweden plus Berlin, Germany and also spend some time in the Alps: probably Northern Italia & Western Austria.

I hope to hear from you soon! :D

Thanks for the reply! To be clear, I definitely prefer to stay with vegans but I am also very much into simply visiting & hanging out. :D

And for folks who might consider hosting me, please know that I can provide plenty of personal references. This include VF members and also the many folks I have stayed with, hosted or simply visited with through CouchSurfing.com.
