So i'm getting my first tattoo....

and I wanted your opinions. I wanted to get ahimsa tattooed on the inside of my wrist in Sanskrit. It would be in this awesome green ink. I called the artist and he said that his green ink was 100% vegan so I'm stoked (he was quite rude though, I felt I went tooo far in asking that...). I am really excited, I think the finished product will look just amazing.

my question was if you guys thought that it was a dumb, overplayed tattoo.

I want any and all opinions!

I am not a good person to ask because my standards are pretty easy and i dont think tattoos are such a big deal, just nail it

But the tattooist... thats where i am more picky and wouldnt really like to go to one who is rude or you dont feel comfortable with.

I agree with JP on both the tatoo and the artist.

I have a tattoo and some folk may not like it but I do and that's all that matters to me so if you like it and feel happy to let the guy in question tattoo you - go for it

I like the thought of green - once saw an image of a guy who had a gladiator type warrior tatooed down his calf in these amazing green/blue colours and it looked fantatsic

I googled ahimsa and found a nice symbol that I think would look good in green. Don't know what it would look like in writing, but it's surely a good message to have one one's body and that also implies veganism.

I like the idea of a green tattoo I've always wanted to get a tattoo, but I've too indecisive. So I agree with JP/JS- you need to like it. You'll be living with it for quite some time!

To be honest if I had tattoos based on what others thought of them then I'd either have no tattoos or tattoos I wasn't PERSONALLY happy with.

For me any meaning that my tattoos hold is for me to know only, so it doesn't really bother me what others think, and if they ask I just say they're tattoos. Although I plan on getting something that is much more outward and has a bold statement. That being said I'm sure you would like people to know what yours means, but at the end of the day you're the one who has to wear it so it's up to you if you like and why worry if it's an overplayed/stereotypical tattoo, so many tattoos are inspired by other tattoos anyway.

Yeah - I agree with everyone saying go for it. You get your tattoo for yourself... some people will love your tattoo, other people will think you are a moron. Who cares what they think!

I'd think very long and carefully about getting a tattoo. I regret most of mine now to be honest. I have about 6. You need to think about the aesthetic as well as the meaning. What means a lot to you now might not in 10/20/50 years.

I think it's better to wear a badge with a message on it.

Soooo ... nothing , and anything beats my first boring, cliche ,overplayed tattoo of some butterflies, at 18 ....
At least it is in a "hiidden " place .

I don't regret it at all . It is part of my personal history, so it all rocks!
Forget what everyone else thinks . Some will love your ink and some won't .
So what . Do what you want and what works for you.
As a biker I stopped my tattoo count at 2 plus a little cover up work .
I thought it was more unique (for me) NOT having tattoos (showing) than having them.I love my bare skin at biker rallies .

And then ,I got into piercing...



I want another tattoo soon. They all mark certain milestones in life .....
I have been thinking long and hard about design and placement this time around ,but it is all good.

I had a tattoo done on my arm when I was about 17 and I still love it.

I think the best advice is to check out the artist more than anything else as a crap tat is awful and that is something you’re likely to regret.Every now and again when I see my tat it reminds me of being a young daft kid and as Im now an older daft kid it makes me smile.
