"complete" vegan foods

Postby ghost » Tue Jul 14, 2009 11:02 pm

Which vegan foods are relatively complete nutrition-wise, excluding protein? I mean vegan foods which contain most if not all nutrients needed, and in good amounts.

Why I'm asking? Because i'd like to start getting some and eating those along with the protein I get.

everything.

most food only has trace amounts of the minerals and vitamins you need, the way I see it.

yeah but you eat fair bit per day, so cumulatively your diet has to be very one sided or bland for you not to get required amounts of pretty much everything.

Add a multi vit tablet or drink fortified soya milk etc just for good measure ;)

what does? Eating? :D

Do you have some deficiencies or something? Some diagnosed problems which make you so worried about your diet?

Most well informed people take vitamins and supplements- check out the Solgar range- do Vegan also the stuff in your local Holland and Barratt.
I personally take a Iron tab. A Calcium. And a zinc every other day. and a multi-vitamin.
All depends what your total dietary intake is?

Vegan society do a Veg cap.

I'm not much of a cook but I'm trying to eat more healthy these days (I used to live off things like waffles and veggie sauseges  )

Maybe not the most inspiring food but I quite like healthy stew type stuff. basically I start with something like lentils, cook them then throw in a selection of chopped veg in roughly the order they take to cook (ie. potatoes near the start, green veg nearer the end). I usually fry some onions n' stuff and add that too. Towards the end I add herbs/salt/pepper dash of tumeric (supposed to have anti cancer properties).

Serve with some nice bread. I've never really checked the nutritional content but I figure it can't be too bad.

Takes me about 40 mins to cook. I can make a large pan that'll last a couple of days.

I'd be very surprised if your diet is anywhere near as deficient as you think it is.

There aren't any single foods or even meals that are "complete nutrition-wise," whatever that means. Eat a broad, varied diet. That's all there is to it.

haha. that reminds me of a soup I made the other day. LEASA a chinese food company sells these packages of vegetables to make a delicious soup with parsnip, parsley, dill, carrot, turnip and onion. So I made the soup and cooked some red lentils with curry powder.. mixed the two soups together and I had an awesome lentil soup.
