I got in an argument recently about the best riffs in "rock music." Hopefully it's obvious how tongue in cheek the whole thing was.

Here are the contenders:

The only note i'll make is that awesome as Jump is, Frankenstein was ONE of the precursors of the epic riff.

RIFFS! Some good ones here. Jump is terrible and should be expunged from the collective memory, but I think Frankenstein is actually really good! Probably in the minority there though.

The Slayer and Jimi riffs are my favourite from the ones listed so far. Oh that's a classic, I love it. That one was playing as the sun came up over the river in Berlin this New Year. Matthew Jonson is king of rinsing a riff for all it's worth.

YOU QUESTION THE FALL?? They are the riff kings/queens, and unquestionably the best British band ever. I get a bit emotional when The Fall are discussed.
