Going dead

Postby Oak » Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:48 am

Well just updated some fantastic numbers.

J, i put your numbers up as you got the weight up! I don't think anyone on the table follows strict enough standards to disqualify you by such minor points

That's great Willpeavy that you got a chance to lift with the barbell for all lifts and sounds like you had a very hard but rewarding session. Already you've moved up on the table. You only need to lift 3 Kg's more to move up again.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Jonathan and michaelhobson continue to move up with their deadlifting. It's starting to get huge now.

Keep it up,
Oak :D

Great work Daniel!

Those are some impressive lifts, especially considering your bodyweight. Thanks for posting, it is always motivating to see some new numbers on the strength table.

It's also good that Crystal will not have to kick your ass :D

Ryan,
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to start working extremely hard on my flexibility and see if that helps my back. (I've got to do something to hold off these new people.) (Also I found a near vegan on Bud Jeffries discussion board who can do twice his bodyweight in the bench... Hopefully he'll show up here....)

Good work Buzz, both adding pounds to the bar and pounds to yourself!

That deadlift is getting up there.

I confronted the scaled today... I weigh 130lbs (I think - 9stone and 4 lbs wass what the balance said). So that is about 60kgs - teh heaviest I have ever been in my life. At my thinnest I was 6stones even - that was just over 18 months ago...

Bench: 30kgs (but that is with ease so I may have to have a fresh go at that one to see how much I am capable of - with 30 I do 3 sets of 8 to 10)
Squat: ( I dont use the free bar ) 30lbs but I could have gone heavier again as I also do 3x8 of that
Deadlift: 105lbs

Thanx! I am very very proud of my progress. Ppl in the gym have been commenting too. Even my training partner is amazed by my progress and strength. Muscles are slowly appearing on my arms. Still having trouble accepting my new body tho. :?

I think you look great, Fruity.

I know it's hard to change your body image, and the media and peer pressure doesn't make it easy on us, does it?

I keep plugging this book Karen Andes 'A Woman's Book of Strength ' because it really helped me when I started weight training, there's a lot of useful psychology in the book.

It looks good - I may ask for it for my Bday form my Gparents!!! Thanks! You are right - the image of a desirable woman is a tall thin lanky woman with either no curves or huge boobs out of proportion with the rest of her body. Guys (more in France than in the UK - and in the UK the average size of females is bigger anyway) tend to frown on muscular girls. Thing is there is a difference between toned and strong. Even many girls I talk to just look to me with that all too common look (as in you exercise freak and kill-joy - its like they feel i am unhappy and need their pity) and say pointedly "I want to be toned not muscly" (and I can finish the sentence... "like a guy"). I believe in myself but it wears one down to always trying to be something other ppl dont believe in.

New entrants!

Postby Oak » Fri Jan 21, 2005 12:01 pm

Well done everybody,

Those numbers are fantastic Fruitbat, especially the benching (you do that for reps?)
Looking forward to hearing of any improvements!
I would definetly use the free bar for your squats. Maybe see if there is a 10kg barbell lying about and start with that. There are much better as they work in 3 planes of movenment and more fully load the legs etc.

It's funny the weightlifting culture and females that i see in my gym. If they are doing weights they automatically go for the silver metal dumbells rather than the plated ones. Then with really light dumbells they start exercising while looking in the mirror. You really don't need to check form when you are doing 1108reps of an exercise!! And there is no way that you are going to get stronger doing it.
It just shows how people can be affected by gender culture and how useless it is.

Daniel - did you notice that in the wilks legue you are just underneath Crystal
Those are amazing starting figures for the table, let's hope that you don't keep your progress secret from now on.
and your scarily close to me in terms of strength

Dianski, really glad that you gave us a score for your deadlift - which is a great deadlift. What exercise do you feel most comfortable doing? You may be able to go a bit heavier on this after a while?

Of course Jonathan has gone up on his deadlift again! 170kg - that's a weight that i don't like lifting. You are going to do well at the vegan fitness strongman event!

Buzz - taken over Willpeavy again. So you seem to be doing well with your squats. Let's see if you can get another before Feb? That deadlift is inches off of 120kg too. That's exciting!

Strength to you all,
Oak :D
