The Food Revolution by John Robbins ~ For an examination of what we typically eat and why we shouldn't.

The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell ~ A good, hard look at the animal-based diet and those who encourage it.

These two books were my personal wake up call.

OK - so this might net be the perfect place to post this, but back in 1989.. it was a comedy sketch from "Bit of Fry and Laurie" that turned me vegetarian (before becoming vegan) .. I just found it on youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF9h2v3D7mc .. ahh the late 80's ......

Hi all,

I'm currently a vegetarian but I will transition to vegan as soon as I can but I will do it at a slow and steady pace dropping out one item at a time. Cheeze is my thorn.. and I will defeat it.

Reasons for veganism?

My number one is this, it was the main diet since the dawn of mankind and it was given as the ultimate diet in a holistic manner. It is the most simple diet too just grab a carrot or an apple and chew. Animals don't have to be tormented and killed just because of me..

I went fishing with a friend of mine and this was where I realized where my mind and heart was in this manner.. it is in a sense easy to go into the store and see them all wrapped up in their coffins.. but when I saw the hook in the eye of the fish.. and the eye pulled from it's socket.. my stomach turned.. then the next fish.. the hook caught in the gills.. to see the struggeling fish that was obviously in pain gasping for air as the knife penetrated and severed it head.. I could not watch.. so yeah.. VEGAN 4 LIFE! I now actually get sick of the smell walking through the meat and fish department..

Sorry if my comment is a bit graphical.. I won't go fishing again..

Watching Earthlings, Reading The China Study and Eat To Live, and the way farmers in NZ exploit cows and the detrimental effect it has on our environment.

I went vegan firstly for ethical reasons, then environmental, and lastly health :-)

Something more than ink.... On a page, on a shirt, on the back of my hand.
